RE-Speed : Updates on Fuel Tanks! I also need some feed back from you guys :)
Well the tanks are in the final stages of being done and ready to be built! Yay! :) I know we've been dragging a bit on those.
Now I was able to source out a new fuel level sending unit, with integrated low level light. These units will be calibrated to stock resistance to enable usage of stock guages if needed. There will also be other units that bolt directly into those unit for using a specific aftermarket fuel guage if your stock one doesn't currently work. That will be a bit more for that to include the price of the guage with it (most likely another 50$ or so). The tanks will be one size fits all first gens. Proper spacers will be provided to snugly fit later model from the SA models which is the skinniest of the lot. Having said all that, what would you guys like to see as far as inlet/outlet sizes? Also what internal pumps would you like to be able to adapt if any? If you guys any questions, or suggestions please feel free to add them in here also. Sam |
Awesome!!! Whats the ballpark price range gonna be for one??? Someday I would love to get one. For us turbo guys -6 inlet/outlet would be nice atleast!!! Or 3/8.. Even larger for some applications.
Just to confirm these will have fuel baffles to prevent fuel starvation and slosh cups correct??? Also, drain plugs on all tanks!!!!!! |
The price still needs to be worked out.
All the tanks will have a drain plug, as well as a slosh cup. There will be different levels of baffling available though. I know some people just want a stock replacement due to the old one rusting and what not, while others want one more track focused. So to keep things cheaper for the other guys, theres that. |

Awesome! As far as inlet and oulet sizes, I'm sure most of us would like to see atleast GSL-SE, this way it's not too big of a step up from a 12A fuel system for those guys and it'll still be right for the GSL-SE/13B swaps.
As far as in-tank pumps, the standard Walbro 255 would be ideal given how popular and common it is. |

Excellent! Sounds like your making headway. I'm one of those just wants a good
replacement tanks sorts, so the drain plug and slosh cup are more than sufficient. Icing on the cake to have a sender thats compatible with the stock gauge. I would also like to keep my current external pump just to keep the swap cost down. Just a tank please :) |
I'd like to see a 1/2" outlet. That should be big enough for most anyone, and you can always adapt it down if needed.

Just thinking some more about this, I think I know a solution to meet most peoples demands. I think that I will just put some -6 AN 90 degree bulkhead fittings on there. Like these:
http://static.summitracing.com/globa...83306erl_w.jpg You can easily get -6 AN fittings to 3/8" Barb from any local sped shop so if you with to go that route. And for the people wanting 1/2" since this will be a removable plate anyways where the fittings sit, you can take it out, drill out the holes a bit more to make the same fitting as the one pictured but in - 8 AN to fit in there and from there you can get -8 AN to 1/2" barb if needed. Good idea? |
Forgot to mention, there will be a small version of the tank also available. I've had a couple request for drag only or autocross only cars to cut down on weight.

Gm sender units seem to be the most popular when you go to after market senders and gauges. 0 ohm empty 90 ohm full. Even though a lot of people will want stock I would appreciate the option of a different sender.
Also I would be all over being able to put a intank fuel pump in my first gen for fuel injection. Let me know when they are in. I can even come down n test one for ya! |
Sam, good to see progress on the tanks If its in my range I would like to have an in tank pump setup and be able to use a cosmo or supra pump like the TII or FD's run they are quiet and able to flow lots of fuel for turbo cars.

It won't be that hard to make other configurations work just like they do in stock second and third gen tanks. |
with mine I just want it to have a drop down sump in the rear with a mail -10an fitting back there and a -6an fitting on top for the return. and since it will be sumped no need for a slosh cup, lol. I am running the A1000 fuel pump to support my high needs.

The slosh cup is the reason you don't need a sump. The Return goes back into the same cup, and thus it's always full. I would like a larger fitting though, as I use a -10 Feed and -8 Return.
Any pics of the current prototypes? |

So, a fuel tank that fits a stock 79 rx7 with all stock parts will be built?
How much gas do they hold, stock, more or less (would like to see more)? Also if your gauge has never correct on how much fuel you have is it the gauge itself or is it the gauge in the tank that is the problem? |
