If it's still there I will pay you good money to get it for me!!!

Or, get me the name and phone# of the yard and I'll see if they can pull it for me...

that roger mandevilles car and spool32s car are so far the most rare rx7s weve got, but as for rarest production rx7. thats another story

I know of someone working on an AWD FB, but I can't talk about it...

79 limited edtion still my favorite
p.s. great forum

Alak 10-20-05 10:09 AM

I had a 1980 RX-7 with a 4-Speed. I've never seen another with a 4-speed.

Also, an aquaintance has a 79 Yellow with an automatic. Its got the pull through turbo kit on it where the compressor sits after the carburetor. Its pretty awesome.

wickyc 10-20-05 11:08 AM

I always thought that the most rare one was the savannah edition. You know the one with the 2+2 with the mirrors up on the fenders. Or maybe the few turbo 12a's that only made it to the japanese domestic market and were never imported to the U.S. I dont know I guess use your own opionion

RustyRotary 10-20-05 11:31 AM

There are 1 or 2 SA's at my tuning shop that have 4 speeds...

jays83gsl 10-20-05 11:41 AM

I have a one peice Targa band available to me, but it's claimed already when I get a hold of it (either CamoCarl or IanS)

Hey it's my car!! :) I just finished tucking her in for winter. :( ... now I have to wait tell late April ... booo.... winter sucks...

Terrh 10-20-05 12:53 PM

nice car spool32!

factory 12A-T?

how many of those were made? (for this market)? like 1? yours?

RRTEC 10-20-05 01:16 PM

From the info I have found they made 2 pace cars, the other was wrecked, or at least that what all signs point towards, as the VIN hasn't been registered in YEARS! It may be in a private collection somewhere....

Only two were made for the US market, but in Japan, there were plenty back i the eighties. Now on the other hand, these things are rare and often sold for more than a FD, and certainly more than a FC! Good thing i got me one this year!

RRTEC 10-20-05 05:58 PM

Yours is not a OEM PACE CAR mortenf....

vipernicus42 10-20-05 07:44 PM

I don't know what I'd say the rarest car is, but if we started a "rarest part" thread I'd nominate my door panels.

Why?
1. They have to be from an '84-'85
2. They have to be Grey
3. They have to be from a car w/o power windows

So that limits it to '84-'85 GS with grey interior ONLY. Forkin' impossible to find in good condition and someone cut the vinal on one of mine!

Jon

smnc 10-20-05 07:47 PM

Lol... You STILL haven't found 'em Jon?
I feel bad for you...

Damnit all to hell!

This is just getting cruel:(

God has a sick sense of humor...

Well, if they don't take it...

jays83gsl 10-20-05 09:50 PM

No, if Carl doesn't take it (debts to him!) IanS will, he had dibs on it before I even had a plan on how to GET it :D

smnc 10-20-05 10:15 PM

I dunno...
I have "friends" that could convince them they don't want it;)...
You wouldn't have an address for CArl and Ian would you...?

Lol... j/k.... :rlaugh:

Mostly....

RustyRotary 10-20-05 10:28 PM

rarest 1st Gen

FWIW the collection of JDM 79-80 RX7 brochures I have include a 1980 Savanna "SE-Limited" with:
-leather interior
-power windows (this is the first 2 years of production remember! PW didn't arrive to the "general" RX7 population till the 81!). Switches were on the doors.
-rear wiper (again, 81+ option outside Japan). Switch was where the electric antenna switch was located in the US RX7 (JDMs had the antenna imbedded in the fr. windshield!- antenna Switch position was blank)
-sunroof
This was pretty unusual in the home market. ANY Savanna 1979-80 RX7s I have seen were all with OUT sunroofs. The "SE" was the sunroof model, as an option in 1980. they were available in the top 2 (of 5!) models, the second being the Savanna SE-GT.
Anyway. pretty low production car, since it came out at the tag end of 1980 production line and Mazda soon switch over the factory to produce the Mk2/81 style. Really looks gorgeous with the leather trim inside. The one in the brochure is brown inside with matching brown stitched-leather steering wheel rim and shift knob. The ONLY Mk 1 (79-80) leather shift knob we ever got here was the black ones in the North American '79 Limiteds.

Like I said in the original post (in the other thread) I think it came from a Mazda parts manual. A newer one might include the FB numbers.

I think I got the parts manual PDFs from one of these sites:
http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/
http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/rx7/manuals.html

Oh and the dealer doesn't seem surprised at all when I phone and say I'm looking for a part number that I got off a PDF of the microfiche. :)

I was in the hardware room at work last week (storage for computers from the 1980s) looking for something and I found a microfiche machine. I have no idea if it works. My first thought was "that's where my part numbers are stored". Then I thought about using a machine like that at the library when I was in school. :)
