radio problems

I bought a clarion 835 head unit and installed it myself using all new wires except for the power and illumination. About 3 weeks ago the unit just stopped playing sound; now it plays very sparodically and other wise the track times for the cd increase like it is playing but no sound is played. When i leave the car off for a period of time and then turn it on it works at first and then dies. Also when i hit bumps of any kind it may go on for a second and then die out again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the unit many times and checked all of the wiring with no results. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Thanks

sounds like a bad connection in the unit, cold or bad solder. try running a direct hot lead from the fuse box, and make sure you have a good ground, also make sure the speakers have a seperate ground from the unit.
If problem persists take it back.

i connected the unit to a separate ground and took it out from the dash. The unit works for about a minute and then dies. If i turn the car/ unit off for a few minutes and then try it again the sound plays again. I tried this both when moving and when stationary with the same results. I was thinking it may be a faulty capacitor within the unit? Does that sound right?

Your head unit is trash. Either have it repaired or have it replaced.

I had a Sony that started doing that... thought maybe it was the speaker wires.

if the wires hit the metal on your car it'll quit playing, i mean it will play fine but the speakers will be shorted out until you take whichever wire it is off the metal body of the car, my truck did this for awhile till i wraped the connections in duct tape

Hmm... well my connections are all soldered on real well and are wrapped in electrical tape. Think i should try rewrapping them?

I have the same problem with my stock clarion unit...
I intend to pull it apart and go through and touch up all the important solder joints

I think my problem is on the RF side of the circuitry.... I can hear a faint hiss when I turn the volume up when I get no sound....
Is your problem the same? Or is there absolutely no sound?

check the resistance of your solder joints with a multimeter, you could have a bad solder.
