You drill a jhole and then they give you this nut welded to a stick. You snake it into one of the holes in the boxed section after you take off the inner fender liner.

Thank you! Used the same method and it worked great.

Back in the fall, I decided it was time to ditch the drum brakes, and get a GSL rear axle. i pulled a nasty one from the local junkyard, and then used rust converter and paint to bring it back to life.

I also rebuilt the whole brake system at this time as well as the LSD.

I would be VERY proud to drive that car. Excellent work. The rewinds really take the cake along with the tint, prefect stance too.

ForsakenRX7 05-11-08 03:13 PM

Thats a gorgeous car. Well built.

Minnionator 05-11-08 05:01 PM

vipernicus42 05-11-08 05:11 PM

I love all the little details.. the rotor valve stem caps, the light in the trunk lid... stuff like that really helps :)

And what an amazingly clean car. In my favorite colour too! (K3)

Yeah, the car show was in the spring the last two years at gyro park in Victoria. Not sure when this year's show is.

I also have one of those rotor keys, and the rotor air freshner. The ashtray is filled with Mazda mints from the mazda dealership. (The black package with the mazda logo in silver printed on it.)

Very nice car man, when I get my rx2 done I want to start on a first gen, I just hope it looks as good as yours.

I also love the treads, I have them on my rx8 and I love the way they hug the road.

Rx7carl 05-11-08 07:42 PM

Great job! I have the same oil cap. Bought it off ebay years ago. The threads never fit right and i eventually removed it. Have you had any problem getting yours on and off?

No never. I bought mine from Atkin's Rotary though. Painted the blue oil symbol myself though.

yetterben 05-11-08 08:16 PM

looks good although i am pissed there is no pics of the horn cap!

Time for a little update I suppose.

Mazda Competition 12A oil baffle pan:
http://foxed.ca/rx-7/june08/small/DSCN3091.jpg
The hole for the front oil pressure regulator was not in the correct space. I had to modify the plate to fit. Did the position change over the years, or did Mazda screw up when stamping the plate?

At the same time, I decided to take care of my leaky oil pan by installing that Banzai Racing stiffening brace. It has done the job, and my pan was also pretty twisted. When I had the pan off, I noticed the PO had lost the oil drain bolt, and then used a universal one, of the wrong thread pitch to replace it. I fixed this with a new Mazda bolt and retapping the hole.

Baffle plate installed:

Everything all tightened up:

Next, it was time to address my antenna issues. Since the Radio Shack power antenna is discontinued, the Metra and other Asian copies of it on eBay were recommended. I was a little concerned with buying a Chinese cheaply made antenna, and these ones also have a ugly chrome mast, that doesn't really work when all the trim on the car is black. I looked around and found a German designed antenna, with a anodized black stainless steel mast.

Manufactured by Hirschmann, the HIT AUTA 2040 seemed like a good fit. ( http://products.hirschmann.de//index...view=1,pid=774 )

I found one on eBay for $40. The guys website was http://www.woodyscustomshop.com He called it an antenna for a Porsche, so you may want to confirm with him that its the 2040 before ordering.

Shape of bracket needed:

Ignore the rust, it was dealt with:

Hard to take a good picture of a thin pole.

Sgt Fox 11-16-08 02:32 PM

I also picked up a set of power windows and some custom cut floor mats. Since I didn't have non power window door panels, I used a rubber body plug to fill the hole. It looks better in person than it does in the pictures.

I also grabbed a rotor oil dipstick from http://Rotary13b1.com

Sgt Fox 11-16-08 02:37 PM

I had installed a RB header system years ago, but I had never bothered to remove the air pump. Since I had ordered one of the Re-Speed heat shields, I figured it was finally time to toss the pump. While I was in there, I also threw on a dual alternator belt system.

http://foxed.ca/rx-7/sept08/small/DSCN3295.jpg

You can grab that pulley from any alternator store for around $20. Part number is here: http://foxed.ca/rx-7/WAI%20PART%20DESCRIPTION.pdf

The air pump had seen better days, and the fastening ear had broken its casting resulting in a pain to remove.

You can see the Re-Speed heat shield tucked away down there.
