Project Kramer Dyno - 370 RWHP!!
Well,
We had a really nice time on Saturday with the MRCCFL crew. We had a Dyno Event, a BBQ, and a tour oss the SpeedSource shop which is building competitive RX-8's for Daytona! I have a REALLY Good Video of my Car doing the Dyno runs, but I don't have a host that can support many users & high bandwidth. Anyway - I did Three pulls. 1) Stock Wastegate Spring at 9 PSI = 270 RWHP 2) Boost set to 12 PSI (What I normally use) = 315 RWHP It got a little lean at the top, so we decided to re-jet it for the higher boost runs for safety. Then: 3) Boost set to 17 PSI = 370 RWHP. All Done on a Holley Blow-Through system, on regular pump gas. Here is the Dyno sheet with all three runs: https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...postid=2588914 My tuner believes on C-16 (Race Gas) I could easily go to 23 PSI safely which should produce about 460 RWHP. I think I'll try that combination at the track for the hell of it :) So, who's going to host the VIDEO's? I have: |
Wow, can't wait to see everything after you get the race gas. That is amazing. Good luck with all of that.
|
DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOLS
Noice dude. i cant wait to slap mine on the dyno once i get it runniN! |
Wow! Great job of building a great running engine!
|
NICE!!
|
I can host the video, probably the decent one that is 15mb. Just email or pm me
omid@bcrx7.com Cheers, Omid |
DF that's awesome.
Must have a great turbo/compressor to do that much. Wonder if you still want to go Haltec after all that? Seems like you have something working real good. Scott |
Wow, those numbers are amazing! I bet it feels good to have all that work done. I'm shooting for 275 on a ported 12a blow through that I should be wrapping up shortly! I wish I could/knew someone that could host your videos, Im sure theyre pretty nice
|
Just imagine what power you'll make once you get around to putting the haltech on there again!
Either way, 370RWHP is pretty goddamn good, no wonder why u smoked that rx-8! |

or sell the haltech and buy some other stuff, seems like they holley is working just fine. I like the a/f's also.

nice, thanks but i can't see the video, all i'm getting is sound. it says i was unable to download a decompressor. whatever that means.
|
What are the details on your turbo setup?
Brian |

Are you planning any races? I want to know how those drooling HP translate into speed. Post some slips or at least G-tech #'s.
can't wait. nice going. |
UNF UNF UNF.
That's awesome man....can wait to see what that thing can do. |
I wonder what 370 hp feels like in an FB..
thx for the vid |
Great vid Alex. That was a pretty good turn out at the BBQ.
I'll PM you the links of the wheels for your widebody |
Bitchin' dude.... It's awesome to see some real numbers from a turbo'd wankel... Great job!!!!
only one day I hope too see the same numbers from my car... matt |
Truely amazing! I bet it feels great to see the actual numbers. I can't wait to see the vids.

Shit DF, I just wanted 350 RWHP on my project... Ya think I could pull that off with a blow through setup also? I was JUST thinking last night about going blowthrough for "simplicity" to start with (like ioTus), maybe using a DCO carb though, then later when I can afford it switching it out for an EFI throttle body. I would still run a stage 2 turbo and stuff, but do you think I could pull off 350 with a blow through stock port 13BT and modded turbo?
~T.J. EDIT: Heres what the site says about the turbo I plan on getting: Stage 2 Mega Hi Flow S4/5: .50 Comp cover and back plate fitted V trim front wheel T04 exhaust wheel Full recondition These units are the ultimate in bolt on horse power , they feature a T04 exhaust wheel/shaft , a T66 front cover , E-trim wheel and larger integral waste gate. Good for 240 + rwkw, they bolt on to the existing exhaust manifold and are good for low 11's to hi 10's in a well set up early Mazda. |

Originally posted by inittab The problem with dynoing an RX-8 is that the computer senses front wheels aren't moving and puts the engine into "limp mode". I don't know if anyone has figured out how to bypass this little problem. |
Originally posted by Directfreak The Video is being Hosted by ABEOMID, see further up at his link. Originally posted by Directfreak They have, it still goes into limp mode, but not until you get the runs in. Thanks |
Originally posted by abeomid here's the video guys/gals: http://www.bcrx7.com/movies/Directfreak.avi Great video, nice server too, 260k/sec average. Mine's only making about 225-250rwhp now, can't wait until I put on the weber, T04B, and the intercooler. Oh yeah, the new dowel pinned and streetported 12a might help too :) Hopefully I'll be able to put down a bit more power then. |
Can you explain further? links? ~T.J. |
Awesome video, you have nearly an identical setup to my TII.
-Marques |
Shit yea i am just wanting to see 225-275 in my stockport gslse with dellorto 48dhla. Good job DF your car continues to be a keeper :)

Are those the numbers you were going for DF ??
|
Fandamntastic DF! :beerchug: :bigthumb:

DF, whats your setup ie: engine, turbo size, fuel, ignition, wastegate. Great numbers, it must be damn near impossible to keep that thing going staight. Thanks for letting me know your setup.
Kind Regards mike |

DF, are you running FI or Carb? Your description had a 650 listed and 720cc with 1600s. Anyway, congrats on the success now go beat the hell out of some 3rd gens.

With The Haltech, I want 400 rwhp. Will you be doing any driveline upgrades by then? |
cool
|
Mel, i don't think he's going to the drag race 10 grand
dump the clutch type of abuse. He wants a fire breathing wide body 1st gen. no wide body drag cars. we all know 370-400 horse power will eat a stock rearend for lunch. ajc13b (steve brown) went through a couple of rearends drag racing, if anybody knows how to , and how much a rearend will run that can handle that kind of power he does. remember that DF. |
Trust me, a Ford 8.8 rear is in the works..
|
Trust me, a Ford 8.8 rear is in the works.. I'm trying to work out the details right now, but I'm considering a ford 8.8 using two of the short axles/housing from a ford ranger (I estimate it will narrow the rear 1.5-2.5" if using the stock drums), then using the Lincoln Towncar/Mark VIII disk brakes (which should bring the track out to near-stock location). The only hitch is the fact that the Rangers use a 5x4.5 pattern... Of course then I'd have to somehow upgrade to 5-lug TII/GXL hubs and rotors in the front to compensate ;) DF, What are your ideas on a 8.8? |
*cries* I want a turbo'd fb. I guess I should work on just getting my 88 TII running first, but ya, I've always wanted a turbo first gen, and hopefully some day I'll own one. So yummy, so fast, so awesomely old school.

Seemd like the old 5.0's are an almost exact fit though. When I am ready, I will definately talk to those who know alot more about them than I do. BTW, Eville140 here has quite the extensive knowledge on them. |
Fords are some tough shit. If i remember right a lincoln versigh, ??? it looks just like the granada,4 door, anyway. has a 9', rear disk brake, thats the one that bolts up to the mustangs, bullet proof ! i don't know what ford performance parts are still around, i'd say a ford 8' ,3rd member, zooms, make the 3rd member nodg-u-ler iron, and detroit locker ,or better. Or buy a lenco pro street rearend, but thats toooo much money.
IMO |

Please note that at 12PSI (315HP), my car is already SUPER fast. I think even 275-300hp is a shitload of HP on a 1st Gen. |
Hey DF,
When you switched to carb, what kind of mods did you do to the fuel system? New pump and everything, or just a return style pressure regulator? The fuel system you had before was SICK. I'd be a shame to not use it some how on the holley. Oh and RMD, Why are you only going to run a stock port? Its not too much more, and a really great thing to do while the motor is apart. I so wish I had streetported my motor when I had the chance. Now I'm kicking myself in the ass. |
Same Fuel system, Same Pump, only a new regulator.
(Mallory 4309) I do need to change the pump location. It's louder than the exhaust at idle. I think I am gonna mount it on the back bumper. When I shut the pump off (with the switch), the car runs off the fuel bowls. Man, it's quiet then. Sounds like a 100% Stock GSL-SE |
