PLEASE HELP! Wheel offset/fitment problem

I bought a set of Konig Rewinds 15x7 with a +20mm offset. According to many posts on the forums, these should fit fine.

BUT - They don't seem to fit at all in the front. Tires will totally hit the front springs. How are you guys fitting these? It appears like a 0 offset wheel would be the only way to go.

PLEASE - ANY ADVISE OR INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

PM Me !!!

what size is the tires? they should fit fine. i had 17" wheels with +40 that fit. i was running 40 series tires tho

Kentetsu 09-23-08 03:22 PM

I think you need 40 mm of backspacing. Sounds like you've only got 20. You might be able to use a spacer, and convert to lugs and studs to get the needed clearance....

.

Red95T-Rex 09-23-08 03:37 PM

I am running 205/50R15 Falken Azenis tires, and there is no-way they will fit in the front. Are you all talking about 40mm of backspacing???

My wheels are supposed to be 20MM OFFSET. (not backspacing)

-.......YES, I know exactly what "offset" and "backspacing" means, and how to measure it.

Kentetsu 09-23-08 03:44 PM

Sorry, got confused between backspacing and offset...

680RWHP12A 09-23-08 03:54 PM

they should fit

Red95T-Rex 09-23-08 04:11 PM

Are you all running coil overs? or stock springs? Cuz the tire hits my front spring, and I can't even bolt the wheel up.

I wonder if Konig mis-marked the offset on my wheels?

Yellow S2 Rx7 13BT 09-23-08 10:52 PM

check out my reply on the :
Post wheel pics 15mm, 20mm, 40mm etc thread.....
I saw this thread after i replied to ya there...

the car i ran 215-40-17" with a +40 offset had stock spring perches . you must have +50 or something super high like that

You shouldn’t have any problems unless your springs are beginning to sag. What is the tire width on the rim? If I can remember right I’m around 8.4” on a 7” wheel. Do they fit at all, or is it when the front springs compress the tires hit?

I’m running BF Goodrich g-force T/A KDW 205/50ZR15 without any problems on stock springs, I just had to take the studs out and switch them over to bolts. I can take some pics behind the tire so you can see how mine are clear the spring.

Here is a thread I started about 8 months ago…

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=konig

It’s more about SA’s front spring width Konig wheels (where one SA owners had problems) but this is the first time I heard about the wheels not fitting on a FB (judging from your sig).

I aslo PM'd u

hahaha spring sag?????
but he cant get the wheel near the hub man.......
doesnt matter which spring is used with certain wheels.....
bet ya if he takes the whole spring off the strut the wheel wouldnt fit
the OFFSET is wrong!!!!!!

Im assuming it would be the same but in Australia the 1st gen cars with 4/110 stud pattern have the low offset +20
and cars with the 4/114.3 stud have the high +35
we call 1st gens S1, S2, S3, rather than sa fb etc
S1 plastic cap steel bumpers, drum rears and 4x110 stud
S2 wrap-around plastic bumpers, rear discs, power windows 4x110 stud
S3 bigger brakes F&R & brake vent slits in front air dam under bumper, thicker/longer axles, 4x114.3 stud

my car is 4x110eg low offset
I have 15x7 (+10) fronts 195/50/15
and 15x8 (+5ish) rears 205/50/15....ill confirm when i get access to my wheels
perfect fitment, low as, no scrape, couldnt get closer to gaurds without scrape

get the highest offset wheel u can at the required width
slowly add washers to stack the wheel out to where u want it
measure the amount of washers and take this from offset
eg 15x7(+40) +20mm of washers stacked on hub
makes it a 15x7 (+20)

hey Red95T-rex:
check the stamping on the back of your wheel
something very fishy here.....
if u put low offset wheels on a car that needs high offset they will stick out the gaurds......
If u put high offset wheels on a low offset car they sit way under the car and foul on the suspension
since you dont have wheels sticking out the side of your car,
that means the supplied wheels are too high offset......
but +20 isnt high its low, so somethings wrong
maybe they supplied wrong offset by mistake???
wrong wheels in boxes????who knows???

+40 wheels definately fit with approx 1in spacer(20-25mm)
mate bought a set of 17x7(+40) wheels off ebay from a 4/114.3 Rx7
when they arrived they didnt fit...he wasnt aware of the stud pattern offset issue we added 25mm hub adapters which runs the wheels at +15 and they corrected the stud pattern to 4x110 problem solved!!!!
now im tired of typin hahahaha

Sgt Fox 09-24-08 06:56 PM

I assume since you said you had +20 offset, that you don't have a GSL-SE, or a GSL with GSL-SE susp.

I personally run 205/50/15 on 15x7 +20 Rewinds. I also have the RB springs which are the biggest of them all. Since they were close, I decided to use some 1/8" spacers just for piece of mind.

What do your konig's look like? The +20 should look like this:

kevinbtz 09-24-08 08:19 PM

Is it 114.3 front suspension?

gsl-se addict 09-24-08 08:57 PM

But the SE suspension would push it out..not in. The SEs need like +40 to pull the wheel inward.

The possibilities that I see are:

- the wheel is really much higher than +20 offet
- the wheel is not 7" wide (wheel actually wider)

kevinbtz 09-24-08 10:27 PM

Yea, but if its not 114.3 I could see him running into clearance problems... If its 114.3 he should not have any issues at all.

OnlyOnThurs 09-24-08 11:52 PM

i have the rewinds on my fb and they clear my spring fine ( IT IS DAMN CLOSE TO THEM BUT THEY CLEAR)..i have had these rims on for over a year now. i have 205/50's

Yellow S2 Rx7 13BT 09-25-08 12:07 AM

am I the only one who understands.......?????:wallbash:
I know were all tryin to help here but....
how many hundreds of sets of wheels have you guys sold/fitted on cars????
how many hundrerds of sets of custom wheels with crazy custom offsets have you guys ordered/sold/fitted....
how many thousands of times have you fixed/sorted out stuff ups with wheels fitting or not fitting?????
I have done so many I lost count....10+years worth of crap like this

gotta luv the pics of those rusty struts!!!!!!!!!

and its great to see pics of more rewinds fitting with no problem.??
looks really nice man, obviously you have the right offset wheels for your car!!!!

trochoid 09-25-08 01:13 AM

Sagging springs will not affect strut clearance. Stock 4X110 backspace is 4.25", measure yours and post back. If you want to visually play with different rims/backspace, etc., try out this website.

These wheels only come in specific lug patterns and offsets. Based on what I have seen available for sale these combinations are:

4x110mm pattern with +20mm offset
4x114.3 pattern with +0mm offset
4x100mm pattern with +40mm offset

I would hazard a guess that the wheel you have are +40mm offset and they have a 4x100mm pattern.

I know you are saying that the wheels will not touch the hub but have you also verified that the lug pattern on the wheel matches the pattern on your rotor? This would be an easy thing to miss if you are trying to attach the wheel with lug bolts. Because, I guessing that you haven't attempted that yet.

If I am right these wheels won't fit your car for several reasons.

DOH! I just replied to 4 yr old thread! Geez...

peejay 03-25-12 07:29 PM

I used to run 15mm offset 15x7s with 225/50 tires and there was still plenty of clearance. Probably could have given up 5mm and still cleared even with those monster tires.

I wonder if you have bent strut tubes, or bent spindles. Or aftermarket rotors that were machined a little too deep on the hub face.

...wait, 4 year old thread? AUGH! :)

bgrbgr 03-25-12 10:40 PM

No no not 4 year old
I just re opened to raise this question.
I am looking to buy this wheel set on eBay. Please help respond. Here is the link.
