oxygen sensor
what is the purpose of the o2 sensor? what happens if i run without it connected? like when i get a new exhaust and there's no place to plug it in, does it cause any problems?
|
it tells the engine whether its running rich or lean. you will need to have a muffler shop put a bung in your exhaust. that doesn't sound right does it?
|
If your car's an -SE, then it won't run. I replaced mine and it made a world of difference. Got rid of the smoke, and a big power increase.
I got a bung from Mazdatrix for my custom header. It's only a nut with one side ground down so that is fits the contour of the exhaust pipe. You could make your own. Drill a hole in the pipe and weld the sucka on. No brainer if you weld. |
I just got a grade 8 nut with the same thread pattern as the o2 and did the grinding and wlding myself :) Lot cheaper probally...

How do I install a 02 sensor. I have a 1982 rex. I want to install a air/fuel gauge

If it's carbed (which your 82 probably is), it won't have an oxygen sensor.
Edit: But to add to the question of where to install one, probably right where the exhaust manifold starts turns into a pipe. (before the connection to the catalytic converter or thermal reactor - don't remember which year it changed, but before that point anyway) |
hmm my 85 has a muffler shop special custom exhaust with an o2 sensor in it. its way too far back. its around the drivers seat area lol. i was wondering why the hell it has it on there. does anyone run a wideband on there carbed cars for tuning?

Thanks to all and sorry for the double thread. I am new to the world of Carb and trying to keep an eye out to prevent the engine from going to lean or to rich when I tune the carb. I just removed the Rats Nest and the tuning of the carb is now in effect. Thanks to all for your help.
