orange '85 GSL-SE

Here are some photos I have of the car. I will get more when it actually arrives here in 2 days. So far what I know it has is: RB headers/intake, aftermarket carb (can anyone identify which one?), aftermarket cat-back, 17" Fittipaldi wheels (too big?), front and rear springs/struts also I believe, and rear seats.

I will get some better photos with my camera when it arrives. I also may sell those Fittipaldi's in favor of some racing 15x7" wheels a friend of mine has but I'm still not sure about that.

that looks like an AWESOME car!!! i am so very very envious of you!! how? where? how much, was it?? man im jealous. if it runs as well as it looks, that will be a dam good car. as soon as you get your hands on it, tell us more!!

Felix Wankel 03-19-02 09:38 PM

Will you take a picture of the throttle linkage for me?

Directfreak 03-19-02 10:00 PM

Well the Pics don't have Rear Seats.
Carb looks like a Dell'Orto:bigthumb:

DONNA 03-19-02 10:01 PM

I see that he also removed the windshield and window black paint from the trim pieces and buffed them out,,,nice Tennessee big orange car,,,,,,,,,,,,

Smeagol 03-19-02 10:48 PM

To answer some questions:

1) It didn't cost me anything really, except for transport costs and soon smog and registration costs. I traded it straight across for my '71 RX-2 to a guy in FL.

2) Throttle linkage photo, why? Just curious.

3) I don't think it's a Dellorto. I had a Dellorto on my RX-2 and it was a little different. I'm thinking it's a Mikuni or Weber. Guess I'll know for sure soon enough.

4) rear seats - can you normally see them from the rear hatch area? I was told it had rear seats but maybe not. Not really a huge deal either way.

Mike

Felix Wankel 03-19-02 10:50 PM

I believe thats a Weber carb.

I want to see the throttle linkage, it looks different than mine. I like the looks of that one better.

RotoHead 03-20-02 12:14 AM

Damn Smeagol, Nice. You'll be expected to take me for a ride in this bad boy. Course, letting me drive it would be nice too! LOL

the rear seats fold down when not using them.

I think your right. I have Picture of an Dell'orto setup.
After Zooming in on it and Your Pic, they do look different.

So to answer your question,

...I have no Idea:confused:

Felix Wankel 03-20-02 01:24 AM

Felix Wankel 03-20-02 02:45 AM

Don't get it from Mazda Racing. They suck.

riffraff 03-20-02 05:55 PM

looks great. i was actually thinking about painting mine the same color. only i would keep the window trim black instead of crome.

Mr. ImportGuy 03-20-02 07:02 PM

very nice car but does everyone with a 1st gen break the lil plastic cover around the steering column my friends FB has the same problem red interior too but anyways great car have fun with it :)

Keaponlaffen 03-20-02 08:19 PM

Man, took me a minute to figure out what the little logo on the hatch is, I took it into photoshop and flipped it around, and realized it says "Rotary Inside". I was thinkin...... intel inside?

nimrodTT 03-20-02 09:56 PM

Wow! That color is amazing!

Smeagol 03-21-02 05:28 PM

Ah, Rotary Inside. Thanks, I was wondering what that said.

nimrodTT 03-21-02 05:39 PM

So you traded that RX-2 for it, I remember when you had that thing on ebay, real nice shape, but I think you got the better end of the deal. Wish I could stumble across a sweet deal like that (wanna trade for a red 2nd gen?).

Smeagol 03-21-02 07:25 PM

I thought the same thing, but my friend was real determined and wanted my RX-2 badly. There was no rust on the RX-2 which I guess is somewhat rare over there since most of the older cars come from around the east cost areas and are badly rotted.

Trade for a 2nd gen? Probably not unless it's a TII or GTUs. I want to at least get the car first before I do anything. Also, no offense or anything but red is my least favorite car color.

It does not qualify. Too bad, cause I'd like a tasty orange treat.

4ohfour 03-22-02 03:07 PM

85rx7blue 03-22-02 09:37 PM

Nice color! The rims are nice too. Good luck.

Smeagol 03-22-02 10:02 PM

It's still not here, hopefully tomorrow or the next day.

Jerm982 03-23-02 02:04 AM

I'm going to be painting mine red and it has a brown interior. Hope it doesn't clash too much, (brown has alot of red in it)

Smeagol 03-24-02 02:26 AM

I haven't seen it yet (still waiting) so I can't say for sure. I know that they are some type of seat covers, but no idea what brand, etc. I may remove them if the original seats are nice enough or if I can find a nice set of seats.

both the top and bottom covers are VERY fragile!! when i got my '85 SE the top cover was cracked from the ass that tried to steal the car from the previous owner. i took the one off my '84 GS parts car and ended up cracking that one too putting it on the '85. if you don't pull the steering wheel you have to flex the sides out on the cover to fit it over the column. flex too much and CRACK!!!! $!!#%~~$$% i then cracked the bottom cover with my knee getting out of the car one day!!

you can't really notice the cracks on mine unless you push down on the cover. i've seen some that were horrible looking!

OtakuRX 03-24-02 03:40 PM

Mines still in great shape.

rex alot 03-25-02 02:26 PM

I'll buy those rims!

smeagol, if you do decide to sell those rims please let me know, I like them and will pay cash and pick them up. I live a few hours south of you. When you get the car, let me know what shape they're in, what kind of tires, ect... Please email me and let me know what you think. Thanks. jhackney@slo.newport.com

Smeagol 03-25-02 05:39 PM

Will do. Car still isn't here (I'm starting to worry now) so I'll let everyone know. If I can find a set of 15 or 16" wheels I like better then I'll sell them, otherwise I'll keep them on.
