OMP and premix what are the dangers?

I've read a lot of opinions posted that say this is "bad". Yes, it may be overkill but is it bad for the engine and why?

OMP and premix link

 Hmm. I thought there was a thread on this no more then half down this page on the 1st gen furum.

Yes, correct. Sorry, perhaps I shoulda posted at the end of that thread. Anyway, I'm trying to get a handle on why runing both might be a bad thing. I have not yet read a reasonable reason why it's bad. For one thing, I know 2-stroke will lower the octane rating of the fuel but that shouldn't be a problem with a N/A rotary.

as long as you aren't excessively premixing, a little insurance isn't bad. i personally use a bit of mmo in the tank with each fill up. never heard it lowering octane though. oil isn't near as flamable as gasso if anything it should increase octane some. maybe i'm way off base here but i've never heard of that. problems with adding too much is possible buildup in the chambers and losing power due to the fact that too high of a percentage of your mixture being oil and not gas.

Yea I was thinking it would affect the flamability if to much oil was getting into the combustion chamber.

Go here and read my thread on this same topic that has been on this same page for at least a week.

true but he is covering running both, not if this or that. this is specific on the pluses and minuses of omp and premix together.

Well if you had read this thread you would know why I asked. That thread, which BTW is not original (do a search MTF) was narrow mindedly limited to OMP OR Premix. That is not my question.

Project84 12-27-02 04:39 PM

Just read through it. The poll may not cover both but you have to read all the post. Their are people who use both and explain why. No danger and no harmful side effects are added. The same side effects of burning regular engine oil still exist, the build up of carbon.

I really don't see the need for running both especially on an n/a engine. As for the octane rating, yes it does decrease it as the oil has virtually no rating. But, even at a 100:1 ratio we're talking about maybe a half a point overall drop in the rating so it's really nothing to worry about.
