A stock 12a comes stock with a nikki
|
Yeah, what he said. The stock carb for the RX-7 is a 4 barrel Nikki :). Id say theyre good if you trust Mazda :).
~T.J. PS - Or did you mean an aftermarket Nikki? Do they even exist for the RX-7? Anyone know? |
It serves it's purpose.
|
so its just a stock carb??

nikki's actually are really good
you can get them jetted and tuned really nicely they can put out a fair amount of more hp and are more streetable than say a holley carb |
540 rwhp with my nikki!!!!!!!!!! pretty good if you ask me!
p/s that was on a 12a motor..... |
Robert, please stop your bragging. Everyone is already well familiar with your HP #s. Obviously thats a seriously turboed engine and I'm sure that the poster of this thread is'nt yet concidering a turbo, as he did'nt even know the Nikki was standard equipment. I could then assume that he did not know that it's probably possible to blow 15 psi thru an SU and get 400 HP.
Clayton, the stock Nikki carb can be stripped of its emissions control diaphragms, bells and whistles, and easily modified to deliver a dramatically better feeling 15 HP increase - With the right exhaust, of course. Further, more in depth mods can max out the engines abilty to extract anymore from the carb- IE, if modded correctly, it can yield HP #s that rival any other aftermarket carb. The engine NA will only deliver about 155 HP. During perfect planetary allignment of our little solar system, and a solar eclipse,...and unusual continuity in the numerical sequence of the date, you might pull 150-155 HP out of your 12As ass. The last 5 HP would be the hardest to work for. In the '140s' would be easily achieved with a modded Nikki and a header uninhibited by emissions control shit. |

sterling, im not bragging, just stating that if you are stuck with a nikki , its no as bad is these guys make it sound! paul yaw is really good with nikki carbs, he helped me out with venturi sizing (he is a very knowledgable guy),,, hey i hear your good with nikki carbs too!!!if you have a choice in the carb you can use i would definatly go with a weber!!! BUT nikki's will do the job with lots of massaging....

I really prefer my Dellorto, not only for the power, throttle response and sound, but also for the extreme simplicity compared to the Nikki. With the Nikki I felt like I was dealing with a maze of crap all the time (I'm no expert with carbs), but with my Dellorto I was able to disassemble, clean, rebuild, install and tune the carb without much trouble.
I personally find that for someone like me who wasn't too familiar with working with carbs, the Dellorto makes me feel like I understand it, and I'm not shy to do any work that I want to. The power increase is excellent (but the low end torque will not match the Yaw Nikki I'm sure), and for me it was a lot easier and nicer than trying to extract the same power from the Nikki. IMO don't bet on a Yaw Nikki unless you buy a used one, everything I've heard is that the guy doesn't respond to emails for 2 years and doesn't answer the phone. So personally, if you're looking for performance, I'd go for a Weber, Dellorto, etc. But you still need to be somewhat comfortable with working on a carb, or at least willing to put in some time to learn how. |

no, he didnt fall off the edge of the earth, he just doesnt care.

Carl and I are working out the details. We'll be offering modded Nikkis in the very near future.
There are alot of little things we have to straighten out, but we know that neither of us could cover the demand of these boards alone. ...Neither of us want people talking about us the way people now talk about Paul Yaw. So to play it smart, we want to cover all bases before turning on the "Shop Open" sign. Just have patience. |

Yeah, I'm not saying the Dell is simpler than the Weber, as far as I know they're quite similar; I think the Dellorto was designed later, to be an 'improved' version of the Weber design. I was more just comparing the Dell/Weber 2 barrel carbs to the Nikki.

I have a 79 intake with a brand new..never mounted ACV Mazdatrix block off plate,Factory Mazda intake gasket, factory ACV gasket...
Ports slightly ported..just cleaned up .. I want to sell this intake..Its not doing me any good and I need cash for my 10AE project.. Email me only please.. I hate PMs.. and I dont have much time to check the boards rotary7s@tampabay.rr.com |
I'm kind of surprised no one has mentioned the Hitachi carbs that were used on the earlier rotaries. They are much simpler and better to modify than the Nikkis. I suppose availability is an issue, though.

any one wanna help me out on where to get a dellertos?? and can you guys help me on how to modify the nikki??? email me at jkjkclayton@mchsi.com thanks for all your help JC

With 200 posts, you've been here long enough to know how to use the search function. I did'nt do a gazillion word write-up on the subject for my health.
Look in the Archive section of this board. |
Dellortos arent in production anymore for our carbs...Or at least thats what I understand. You would have to find a used setup somewhere. Try www.thepartstrader.com, here in the classifieds section, and even Ebay. Definatly try and search about dells and Webers though, and even modding the Nikki. Theres lots of good info out there. Good luck.
