What exactly are the KYB boot covers?

They are just to replace the stock factory ones that will likely tear or break when I replace them. They are like 9 bucks. The go over the shock/strut somewhere.

So did you get this setup all in yet? How does it ride now? I am thinking of a similar setup. Seems like the Ebach springs and tokico illuminas are a popular combo. I wanted to do poly bushings as well. Any reason to go rubber in the back as opposed to poly??

Right on.

Directfreak 08-01-02 12:58 AM

It rides incredibly awesome. I can set it from Race Car Stiff to Cadillac soft in less than a minute.

It has a nice predictable balance, and great ride. Well sprung and no leaning. I am sure the sway bar and poly's have helped too.

Oh, and here's my Tokico mod (if you call drilling holes a mod!:D )
Now I can change the rear settings quickly without having to remove the rear panels

congrats on the new suspension!!!! :D
i'm jealous ... hehehehe
how much difference do you feel with the torque brace?

RotorMotorDriver 08-01-02 05:50 AM

Ok, I realize that P-S-T has that front end kit (I've never seen a "kit" for our cars :)), but does that actaully come with "everything" you need to replace? And what about the back end? What all is back there that needs to be replaced?

MIKE-P-28 08-01-02 07:48 AM

Man , can you say this isnt gonna be a sunday driver? LOL

Denny 08-01-02 09:43 AM

So where are the lower control arms? The tie-rods? The new idler arm bushings? To replace the ball-joints you have to replace the lower control arm as the ball-joints are not replaceble....

You're not there yet, Cowboy!

Denny:D

I didn't install it. It is waiting patiently to go in with the Cosmo engine. :) I never had any intention of installing it with the SE engine. I just figured that with 3 times the power of a stock SE, I might need it.

Yes. You have to call them though, and have them go through everything with them on the phone.

Actually Denny, I am almost there, the Tie Rods, and idler arm bushings I have. I am goint to take it to a suspension shop for them to swap what I couldn't, since I need to align it immediately afterwards.

I have the lower control arms from the "Donor" car and we cut out all the rubber. I have new ones to go in using the old brackets, etc - but I will do that at the suspension shop too. I am not too confident,

The car feels TIGHT AS HELL. I want a strut tower brace as well, but I will have to wait to see the clearance problems with the new engine's intake.

Manntis 08-01-02 02:31 PM

I've asked P-S-T about the front end - they seem confused by the inquiry and tried to sell me Ford parts instead. "Well, they do own Mazda now so mebbe it'll fit..."

Manntis 08-01-02 06:32 PM

Just got the front & rear Racing Beat swaybars & poly bushings including new end link bushings... this oughta be fun :)

So like the ride isn't too harsh with the poly bushings and the stiff springs? I've heard the poly bushings can makes things quite harsh and jarring. Austin has a lot of shitty roads downtown and and the like that I absolutely hate driving on now. But boy does it have it's share of twisty assed hillies as well!:D I'm looking for a comprimise, something I can throw around the corners but that wont knock my teeth out on the way to the grocery. I'm sure my shocks and struts are worn to hell as it is being 18 years old, so maybe it'll feel about the same. I just don't want to sink a bunch of money into something I wont be happy with later on.

Right on....I'm about to order this stuff finally!

As hard or as soft as you want. I have it on "3" in the front, and "2" in the rear. It feels like a NEW CAR. quiet, well dampened, and very predictable.

It doesn't feel this way to me, but my suspension was 17 years old, and the rears where totally gone before.

Again, it's up to you with this setup. "1" is very plush, "5" is very stiff. The Eibachs are progressive rate springs, so I think that's why the combination feels so well.

Ask anybody with the same setup. Eibach springs and 5 way illuminas. I am sure nobody is unhappy. I am telling you, it feels like a new car by comparison.

I have been fucking around taking 90 degree turns at 40mph, (and climbing) and it feels like a cat. Money well spent.

I did it because mine needed replacement anyway. Maybe yours doesn't. But since I am building my car to RUN, I had to get her good shoes. (Racing Tires are next)

Directfreak 08-01-02 09:15 PM

The sway bar was a *bitch* to put in though.

tsk tsk... under a jacked car with the jack stand just sitting there... :)

Denny 08-01-02 09:58 PM

Love the Garage shot! Kinda neat seein' someone else buried beneath a Seven.

Good Work, Good Job...
Go to it, Cowboy!

Denny,
From the 'ol corncrib...:p:

RotorMotorDriver 08-01-02 10:34 PM

Eeewww...Is that an Eclipse in the pic?? :) Just kidding, I like the old body styles, but I just cant seem to get the new one into my head, it just doesnt look right for some reason :).

I've got poly bushings all through the front end and the ride is definately a lot harsher than stock. That being said I wouldn't have it any other way. It steers and handles a lot better since the poly bushings help hold the correct alignment settings when cornering.

This job is sooo easy if you have a tie rod end seperator. Took me about half a day to swap in new tie rod ends, drop the control arms, press new bushings in and re-install the control arms. The toe settings are easy to retain as well.

Yeah, I am sure it is, if you know what you're doing. I am not confident on screwing with steering gear, so I will take it to the shop where they have the tools and experience.

Unless you want to come over and help?:D
