What exactly are the KYB boot covers?

So did you get this setup all in yet? How does it ride now? I am thinking of a similar setup. Seems like the Ebach springs and tokico illuminas are a popular combo. I wanted to do poly bushings as well. Any reason to go rubber in the back as opposed to poly??
Right on. |
It rides incredibly awesome. I can set it from Race Car Stiff to Cadillac soft in less than a minute.
It has a nice predictable balance, and great ride. Well sprung and no leaning. I am sure the sway bar and poly's have helped too. Oh, and here's my Tokico mod (if you call drilling holes a mod!:D ) Now I can change the rear settings quickly without having to remove the rear panels https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...&postid=851815 |
congrats on the new suspension!!!! :D
i'm jealous ... hehehehe how much difference do you feel with the torque brace? |
Ok, I realize that P-S-T has that front end kit (I've never seen a "kit" for our cars :)), but does that actaully come with "everything" you need to replace? And what about the back end? What all is back there that needs to be replaced?
~T.J. |
Man , can you say this isnt gonna be a sunday driver? LOL
|
So where are the lower control arms? The tie-rods? The new idler arm bushings? To replace the ball-joints you have to replace the lower control arm as the ball-joints are not replaceble....
You're not there yet, Cowboy! That Retro-Cowboy, Denny:D |

That Retro-Cowboy, Denny:D Actually Denny, I am almost there, the Tie Rods, and idler arm bushings I have. I am goint to take it to a suspension shop for them to swap what I couldn't, since I need to align it immediately afterwards. I have the lower control arms from the "Donor" car and we cut out all the rubber. I have new ones to go in using the old brackets, etc - but I will do that at the suspension shop too. I am not too confident, The car feels TIGHT AS HELL. I want a strut tower brace as well, but I will have to wait to see the clearance problems with the new engine's intake. |
I've asked P-S-T about the front end - they seem confused by the inquiry and tried to sell me Ford parts instead. "Well, they do own Mazda now so mebbe it'll fit..."
|
Just got the front & rear Racing Beat swaybars & poly bushings including new end link bushings... this oughta be fun :)

Originally posted by brownmound So like the ride isn't too harsh with the poly bushings and the stiff springs? Originally posted by brownmound I've heard the poly bushings can makes things quite harsh and jarring. Originally posted by brownmound I'm looking for a comprimise, something I can throw around the corners but that wont knock my teeth out on the way to the grocery. Originally posted by brownmound I'm sure my shocks and struts are worn to hell as it is being 18 years old, so maybe it'll feel about the same. I have been fucking around taking 90 degree turns at 40mph, (and climbing) and it feels like a cat. Money well spent. I did it because mine needed replacement anyway. Maybe yours doesn't. But since I am building my car to RUN, I had to get her good shoes. (Racing Tires are next) |
The sway bar was a *bitch* to put in though.

Austin has a lot of shitty roads downtown and and the like that I absolutely hate driving on now. But boy does it have it's share of twisty assed hillies as well!:D I'm looking for a comprimise, something I can throw around the corners but that wont knock my teeth out on the way to the grocery. I just don't want to sink a bunch of money into something I wont be happy with later on. Right on....I'm about to order this stuff finally! |

Originally posted by REVHED This job is sooo easy if you have a tie rod end seperator. Took me about half a day to swap in new tie rod ends, drop the control arms, press new bushings in and re-install the control arms. The toe settings are easy to retain as well. Unless you want to come over and help?:D |
Originally posted by Directfreak The sway bar was a *bitch* to put in though. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...&postid=897197 I just love the fact I have a day set aside to work on my car, and BAM someone comes up wanting their deck, 4 speakers, 2 4 ch amps and a sub box put in :ar: But money is money, so needless to say I got NOTHING done tonite! |

if all you get is a scolding, rather than the heavy end of a car dropped on top of you, consider yourself lucky.

Hey nice setup! Just like mine :D
I have a custom strut tower brace though, the RB one is heavy and not legal in CSP. |
Originally posted by hornbm lol.... I was thinking the same thing. Every time we do that in my auto shop class, we allways get a scolding and a shit load of paper work do do for like a week before we can work in the shop again |
screw the oil problem on the floor, you need to worry about the wheel assembly that fell off the front. going trike?

Please dispose of the eclipse :D

Looks like you already have it done, but a tip on the SE's front stabilizer bar is that the lower Oil Cooler line is *underneath* the stabilizer bar due to the raised location of the oil cooler in the SE. This means that unless you want to do gymnastics with the bar under the car, taking off one tension rod mount and rotation the beast around to straddle the oil cooler lines (top and bottom), you're going to have to remove the oil cooler line, which is preceded by draining the oil...
I found this out the hard way, and chose the gymnastic route, instead. Plus, my Koni front bar is so thick that I had to air-grind the tension rod mounts to fit the ends of the bar through, then air-grind the underbody where it contacts the bar. All this, to get good, clean motion out of the bar, with the car lowered onto the springs. BTW, the front boots on my struts were just fine, but would probably be worth it to replace them while you have the springs and shock mounts off of the top. Use caution when working with those springs - they can kill you if not handled correctly (i.e. compressors, or caution, or both). HTH, |
