New CUSTOM TURBO MANIFOLD 12a!!! :)

2 Attachment(s)
well, i'm having a custom turbo manifold made for my 12a blow thru setup. at the moment i have my own fabricated junk on there but it has too many exhaust leaks, so i found a professional who makes some of the nicest manifolds i've seen for our rotaries!!!! here's the 50% done pic! and the other pic is pretty much what it will look like (mine just has to go a little more forward to clear the racing beat holley intake). also, it's flanged for the stock s4 turbo i'm using. this way when i do a 60-1 hybrid rebuild, there will be no need to mess with another manifold and oil lines, etc... WOOHOOOOO!!!!! whatcha think?

p.s. "proxy error" in the title works!

My question is that a 13 RB mount or a 12 RB mount ?

TurboSE 06-02-05 01:41 AM

would that clear the hood?

FB II 06-02-05 01:45 AM

mine utilizes a 12a rb flange... hence my 12a turbo setup ;) he makes both tho. and yes, it will clear the hood with plenty of room.

web777 06-02-05 01:56 AM

Looks good! How much?

FB II 06-02-05 02:08 AM

250.00! :D

web777 06-02-05 02:12 AM

Good deal! I should've just got one of those instead of searching for a Cartech mani.

thekyl 06-02-05 11:18 AM

Yea 250 isnt that bad does it come with the down pipe for the turbo or do you have to custom make that?

moremazda 06-02-05 11:28 AM

That looks really nice!!!! Be sure to let us know how the S4 turbo responds with that manifold.

How long are the runners from flange to flange?

Yup, Rene is a cool local from LA. he did my turbo header (using 89 TII turbo). This will allow me to use any intake (such as RB holley, IDA, sidedraft) for the FB

Try as I might, I can't get a new thread to post so I'm forced to semi-jack this one...

While sourcing parts to hop up my Daytona, I came across a number of VNTs and it got me to thinking these would work well on our 13Bs as well. Variable Nozzle Turbos (in this case, Garrett T25s) don't have wastegates - instead they have moving fins. When fully closed, it functions as a small turbo for spoolup. When opened, it's like a muck larger turbo for better breathing. Sort of like the FD 2 turbo system, but without all the complexity.

It also has the waterjacket I've written about before. Normally turbo cars have timers that keep the engine running after you've been out driving hard, because if you shut off the engine while the turbo is hot the oil could coke in the bearings and cause the turbo to seize. The Garret takes in engine coolant from the bottom that, when entering the hot housing, boils off, taking heat with it and bringing in more coolant through convection. No moving parts required, so you can just shut off the car and walk away without worrying about your turbo.

The thing is, these aren't widely used for rotaries. Either no one has tried it, or there's a good reason why. Am I overlooking something? I figure with no wastegate or timer required, but a virtual twin turbo in a smaller space, this would make for a good 13B conversion setup. Thoughts?

First Sweet looking manifold, length looks about right as long as it clears the hood.

And for our newest threadjacker: :D

Quit waffling Mantis and try it :p: (and then tell us how it worked) Oh and I love your new avatar :rlaugh:

actually, no. this is my second set. the first one didnt clear the RB holley. so I brought my the holley carb/manifold to ensure that it will clear it. I picked it up last saturday.

FB II 06-02-05 09:06 PM

yea, that's the one. he said it was tested and worked great. (your second set i guess) wooooooot! so yes, mine is exactly the same as yours. YAY!

Rotor13B 06-02-05 10:04 PM

I don't get it, Why wouldn't it clear the hood? Isn't it just sticking out to the side?

FB II 06-02-05 10:06 PM

yep, pretty much hahahaha

gonzz 06-02-05 10:43 PM

Hey I need a manifold for my RHD SA. Going to install a S5 TII in it.. Can he make one? Thanks
