Need Power Steering Pump
 

My '84 power steering pump is whining very noticeably at low speeds. At higher speeds, I can't hear it over the exhaust :) No, the fluid is not low, it is right where it should be on the dip stick. I think the pump is tired from 170,000 miles and high rpms of street port driving.

I tried ordering a complete $280 rebuilt pump from Autozone, and the pump that came in did not look anything like my old pump.

Mazda does not offer the FA55-32-610 pump anymore; I just checked.

Where can I buy a new power steering pump?

There are no known "New" replacements offered anymore that I am aware of.
If you received the wrong one from Auto Zone they ordered the wrong one.

Well it got too hot to do any more road racing this summer, so I parked the 1979 race RX-7 and started doing some long neglected maintenance on my 1984 street RX-7. I finally put in the power steering pump from Black Dragon, and now the whining noise from the old pump is gone. The old pump had a noticeable amount of play in the shaft.

The Black Dragon pump did not come with all the correct seals for attaching the reservoir the the pump. For future people replacing their pumps, I would recommend obtaining those two seals in addition to the pump before you start your replacement project.

Where did you source those seals? I have a good pump and tank I can't use because I baked the seals when powder coating, oops.

My 1984 pump/reservoir has a die cast aluminum L fitting between the reservoir and the pump inlet. I had to reuse the seal at the pump inlet; it appeared to be a cone shaped molded seal. No o-ring looked right in that joint.

For the o-ring between the aluminum L and the reservoir tube, I trial fitted American viton o-rings until I found one that felt just right. Sorry, I did not write down the dash size - I didn't know y'all had a demand for those.

That odd shaped seal is the one I baked in the oven. Haven't found anything that worked to replace them, so I stole the unit off the other car, which I'll need to replace one of these days.
