Mallory 4070m fuel pump going bad?

So I'm using the mallory 4070m fuel pump, last summer it overheated, at least I'm pretty sure it did, it was really hot to the touch and wasn't pumping any fuel, after it cooled off I was able to start it and drive it home. Today I stopped to get gas and started to leave when the car died and no fuel was being pumped to the carb. I had to suck the gas line to get the gas flowing again and after that it ran fine. I later went to the store and was maybe in there for 5 mins max and again ran into the same problem where I had to suck the hose to get it flowing again. Currently not using any FPR and the fuel filter is clean. It's hooked up directly to the carb so I'm thinking I need to replace the fuel pump to fix the problem, what do you guys think?

I have ran the Mallory 4070 for years and have had two failures during that time. Both were worn brushes, I bought replacement brushes from Mallory for cheap and fixed them. Not a very difficult repair just a pita to remove the pump and a couple of screws to seperate the motor from the pump so you can get to the brushes. I do not remember having an issue with the pump getting hot however, I guess it is possible you are having a different issue.

you need to keep the pump level to the gas tank......or it will over work itself the first 10 second....

I'm thinking it is a different issue that I'm having then. I probably over worked the pump and shortened it's life when I was having vapor lock issues 2 winters ago and was trying to start it without the fuel actually flowing. To be safe I'll just order a new one so I don't have to worry about it going out again. It really seems that once it's warm is when I'm having the issues and if I let it cool enough it's good to go, just drove it to work, took 30 mins or so and no issues. I'm pretty sure the location is fine, I had a carter fuel pump in the same location and never had any issues. Thanks for the replies.

(1) THIS SHOULD BE POSTED IN THE PFC FORUM.

There are a few tables in the PFC that use air or water temp.
Compare you map against the stock default one for temp table changes.
If nothing found; log the start and run process until it dies and post the log.
Worst caee: take both sensors out and test per the manual.

Email me your map and log I will look at it.
