low profile 13's for the street
 

I was thinking of getting 185/60-13's to put on my stock rims, does anyone know where you can get them? I've seen sumitomos on tire rack in this size, but it would be nice if there was more than one brand available.

I wouldn't be suprised at all if sumitomos are your only choice for the street.

You should try 215/50/13 and sumitomos is your only choice for the street.

Don't know if the're still made but 205 60 13 Pirelli P6's are good on the street

215 is wider than I would go. In fact, that's about as wide as you can fit. I've had the best luck with 195's and 205's

I don't think you can fit 215's on the front without the tire rubbing on the strut.

Wouldn't you end up with massive wheel gap by putting "low profile" tires on the stock 13" rims?

They will fit, But barely. I have 215's on the front. Let me see If I can find a pic of the clearance.

It seems like 185/50 - 13's would be the stiffest size. I realize they will have a really small diameter, but that's the point. The gap will get closed back up when I get RB springs anyway. I'm not trying to win any beauty contests, just make a really light and quick FB. The 185/80 - 13's on my car now handle like sponges, and as well as they complement the telepathic nature of first gen steering, they are gonna have to go.

The Falken Ziex 512 might also be a good candidate, still deciding between them and the sumitomos. Here's a link to pretty recent thread:

falken azenis sport comes in 205/50/15, and you won't find a better performing tire without going to an R, and youcan't really use R's on the street...

I've said it before but I plan to run A032R's on my RX-7. I've run R's on the street before and it's incredible, since the RX-7 is a light car so they won't wear that fast. Although check your local laws, a friend of mine did get a ticket for running shaved Toyo RA1's on the street.

I've run 205/60-13 for most of the time on my 80 GS. Used to use Pirellis for a long time and then the last set ( which are ready to be replaced) where Bridgestone RE71. These were great back when I got them but they're old and hard as rocks now. Anything wider than 205/60 and you'll start having problems with the tire rolling over off the side of the rim on corners. Even a 205/60 will sometimes loose air on hard corners unless you pump them up in advance. I used to autocross and ran into this before.

The RB springs do not drop the car much, if at all.

Trust me, if your car is running on stock springs that are 20+ years old, your car will probably sit higher with new springs.

If you can see clearly enough in my sig, I'm running 185/60/13 A008R's. Lots of wheel gap, but awesome gearing. :bigthumb:
