looking to upgrade somethings

Alright I was looking to upgrade some parts on my car and I'm running into some problems. First my shift knob will not come off I've tried turning it and it won't budge. Second interior seats. Love my seats, but I like the way miata seats look. I want some input on this.

anyone know why the knob won't come off? anyone?

If it's the stock knob, eat some Wheaties and twist harder. Some aftermarket knobs, Momo, are held on with set screws.

the whole shifter starts to move

Look at the chrome piece at the base of the knob. See it has wrench flats? Put a wrench on it, hold the knob and back off the chrome piece. Its a lock nut for the knob.

Edit: pull the boot down to see the flats.

The whole shifter won't move.

The knob is a two-piecer. There's a chrome nut that holds it on. Put a wrench on it, hold it, and turn the knob around counterclockwise.

alright thanks a lot.

Beat me to it.

YapaKanichi 04-27-04 03:34 PM

ok I just went and tried that and it don't work. I'll let you mess with it when we meet up sometime.

YapaKanichi 04-27-04 03:38 PM

I think the person before me glued it or something.

bouis 04-27-04 03:42 PM

Glue? It won't hold. Just put some muscle on it. Try to tighten that nut; it'll break the glue loose.

Well get a bigger wrench damnit.

If it's been lock-tited on, you may be in trouble. The permanent lock-tite versions need heat to loosen.
