What RPM are you cruising in?
Could be the decelleration dashpot needs adjusting.

hmm, I have an '82 that also does this as I decelerate, but only once the rpms get below about 3500 or so. so this is a dashpot problem?

Mine does the same. I think the dashpot needs adjusting, but I'm getting a Sterling shortly, so I'm no too worried about it.

I removed my dashpot completely and it only starts jerking on decel if it drops below 2000 RPM.

Mine used to jerk a bit higher and then I adjusted the AP a little bit.

13Bs with Hitachi carbs tend to jerk below 2000 RPM on decel too. Opening the throttle very slightly reduces it.

just put the clutch in lol, less wear on the engine that way too. Whenever going down hills, I use the brakes. easier to replace brake pads than your apex seals, you do about 1/3rd the rpm too just rolling down hills at idle

If your not accelerating or cruising you should have the clutch to the floor :P
