If you guys would like me to do a right up let me know. I did not do the wiring for a first gen though because I installed a t2 harness complete.

81Rex6port13b 01-11-04 12:41 AM

t2 harness complete as in dash and headlights.

im assuming you just left the stuff you did not need alone?

what about the fuse box under the dash? i did not take that.

did oyu use it?

nice  ill would like to do that on my SE, i dont care if i loose the dam dummy lights

gonzz 01-11-04 02:43 AM

Well did the wiring today. It wasn't that bad.. Gas gauge not working. speedo moves but don't go past 30 MPH, I think this cluster is bad. I got it from a junk yard. Going to buy a good cluster and see.. I'll keep everone updated..
I used this sheet to do all the wiring. They made this sheet to do a S5 into a S4 cluster swap.

81Rex6port13b yeah I did the harness complete front to back the 1st gen harness is better in many ways though from a working on it perspictive. the second gen harness set up has many places for problems in comparison some of the wires in it are under sized for their use and there are a few relays that should be done with out. gonzz the diagrams look good but I have found out that the published one does not always match the cluster ( the wire colors ) but the pin use seams too. so if you have a piece of the gauge harness for the 2nd gen go by the pins not the colors. to get the cluster to fit corectly you will need to cut off the front part of the cluster infront of the clips and use the front of the first gen cluster. you will also need to use the face plate of the 2nd gen with the suround of the first gen and mate them. the clear plastic of thr first gen will also need to be used and modfied for the 2nd gen gauges. and it will be a tight fit.

I will post a write up and more pics in the next couple of weeks. may be gonzz can work with me on the write up and have two points of view.

gonzz 01-18-04 06:48 PM

I can do that..

gonzz 01-22-04 10:04 PM

Update: Got new cluster/clear plastic installed today. Still need to cut my cover piece but here it is.. Install a carbon fiber gauge surround and silver indiglo gauges.. Hope you like it...

Looks nice so far. What are you goint to do about that huge gap between the cluster and the dash?

BIG J MIXALOT 01-24-04 11:12 AM

 nice

gonzz 01-24-04 04:17 PM

going to make a filler plate out of sheetmetal then paint it. Will look good.. Might even carbon fiber the metal.

someone82 01-26-04 11:57 PM

So for wiring do I just follow the diagram you posted or have you made changes? Did you get the fuel guage working? Also same for the voltmeter.. seeing it's intergraded with the tach on 79/80 models?

Thanks,
Matt

gonzz 01-27-04 02:43 AM

fuel guage is good now. you have to get the year wiring harness of your vehicle and wire it to that diagram. It's not that hard. Any questions I can help you out. All I used was a multimeter and test light.

jayroc 01-27-04 12:10 PM

I wondered about this awhile back. I assume that the voltages sent by the sending units of the 1st gens and 2nd gens are the same? Obviously, the voltage and tach would be the same, but what about the oil pressure, water temp, gas level, speedometer, etc? You don't need to swap sending units to get the correct reading do you? Also, doesn't the 80 FB have a cable driven speedo? Is it possible to easily convert it to electronic?
