installing a header

how difficult is it to install, say, a racing beat header on an '83 GSL?

what kind of performance gain can i expect?

It's not difficult at all. The hardest part is getting those damn manifold bolts off. Theyre probably fused onto the block from years of operation. After those are off, you simply replace the manifold and cats with the RB header and presilencer. Everything fits just right.

BTW, if you're still running an air pump, that has to go too. Again, all youve got to do is remove the pump/belt/hoses. To do the job properly, you should remove the air pump hardware attached to the manifold. RB sells the caps you'll need to block off the manifold air pump passages.

Oh yeah... performance gains. Prepare to be impressed. At this point, this is the biggest power increase you can make on your car since porting etc is useless if you've got a stock exhaust. You will feel a big difference... I promise.

as for removing fused bolts, what would be the best way to go about that?

you probably will not have to worrie about fused bolts.. i did that swap this last weekend. took no time at all. just strip off the air pump, acv, and heat shields to the manifold. then you will have fairly easy access to most of the bolts.. you will have a little fun, though, getting the top to bolts off.. not a lot to move around..

power increase is definatly worth it. even with a shot fuel pump, i can kick some ***
