Angry ignitors not working

one of my ignitors went out on my 85 12a, really sucks *** too, the part store wants 150 each, and rx7 of atl wants 60 each, so i thing that i might get them,
but i was wondering if i could and how that i would test them, i dont want to buy somethign i dont need.

but maybee you guys coul let me know exatualy what it is, it idels ok, about like it always did, but for the motor to break 4500 rpm takes an act of God, and it back fires and runs like ****. i have new coils, wires, plugs, cap and rotor. wich i been using for about a month befoer it died on me, is there any thing else it might be. and my fuel pump is pushing about 4.3 psi, wich is for facotry tolerance

any help would be great.
Thanks Robert

Did you put a timing light on the engine? I did, on a problem car, and found the timing 30 degrees off! Timed it right and it runs like a champ.

Somewhere there is a circuit diagram for testing ignitors, but I don't remember where. And I've gotten J109 ignitors for $20 on eBay, and even less at the junkyard.

Just pull a plug off the dizzy cap and see if it is firing, be careful not to shock yourslef though. When you are sure that your ignitors are bad, go to a junkyard and pick a couple up. Or ask for them in the wanted section of this forum, you can get them cheap that way. Good luck.
