I was lucky enough to receive a 1985 RX7. The original engine had been swapped out for a 1980 engine with fewer miles on it. The engine has a problem that I am not sure how to fix. While driving in first and second gear the engine runs very well. But as I shift into third the engine boggs down and really cuts back on the speed, and there is no power. It feels like there is a govenor that cuts the engine off at 5000 rpms once I shift into third or fourth. I am not sure if it is a timing problem, or a fuel feed problem. Any hellp would be great. Ask all the questions you need to understand better.

 

Change the fuel filter.
