Hmm...Nifty. You should have seen my cousin uncle and I trying to put a 10 disc changer in there and mount it level and flush, lol. It was fun. Just the shape of the box made it kinda hard, cause the damn thing always wanted to sit crooked, and when we brought it up high enough to clear one ridge, it would hit the lid, lol. Oh well, Im glad thats over with.

I bought a universal one from the parts store, came with two threaded J hooks and a I shaped hold down. Worked great, passed tech inspection too:D

This was in my 1st gen.

On my third gen I successfully mounded the battery behind the driver's seat using some eyehooks and some J hooks. You simply drill a hole through the floorboard and install the eyehooks, then hook the J hook to them and run something over the top. You can even bend the J hook to compensate for the slant of the floorboard:

On your storage bins, did you add those piano hinges? How? OOOPS, wrong picture!

Hmm..

I was curious, because I can't put a battery box around mine, it's too tight a fit. The "J" hooks I bought just plain suck.

I am looking for a good secure alternative.

This is the pic. How did you secure the piano hinge to the lid and bin?

screws.

Is there a sheetmetal backing inside the lid, or is it just plastic?

Directfreak 11-15-02 01:01 PM

Screwed through the plastic, onto the factory sheetmetal of the bins.

On the lid side, it's just on the plastic. It didn't go all the way through.

I have had 7 FB's, and I have done this mod to 5 of them. It's a real common problem (at least to me).

When finished, it's very snug.

Yeah, the plastic "hinge" on my bin lids are about 1/2 split, so I've been contemplating this. I was thinking that I might add some JB weld or epoxy on the hinge attachment to the lid with the screws since there is no metal to screw into. Thanks!

Im my FB ( this is not battery related) I simply removed the lid behind the passenger side to have much easier access to the bin. On the drivers side it stays shut, housing a 10 disc changer.
