Boy, that's a toughy. :)

Maybe weld a nut to it, or burn it out with a torch?

.

nah. this happened to me. the lugs are two pieces. the hex head is a separate piece from the bolt. i took a lug i could get off and beat it with a monkey wrench until the hex cap popped off. place the newly freed cap on that one and you're good to go.

this.

You shouldn't have to use a "monkey" wrench. Two options: find the seam where the cap meets the body of the stud you're sacrificing, and hit it with a cold chisel. It should separate the two so you can use a vice to pop them apart. Your other option is to drill through the center of the top of the cap on your sacrificial stud. Then use a hammer and a punch, with the lug in a vice, and pound the stud portion out of the cap.

Don't forget to soak the area with AeroKroil, both around the stud, and the wheel/hub interface. It will help you break shit loose.

find or order AeroKroil and soak it for a few days, few times per day (the more the better). That stuff, while expensive, makes PB Blaster look like Water.

deadphoenix52 02-24-10 09:10 PM

would you be willing to part with it for the price of shipping?

Sgt Fox 02-24-10 09:20 PM

You could try pounding on a 12Pt socket onto the lug. Just make sure you don't care about the socket.

AcidAngel7477 02-24-10 11:25 PM

take the wheel off..spray it with plenty of this AeroKroil they speak of then vice grip that shit off....

:AA:

rxtasy3 02-25-10 12:26 AM

to test the speedo: disconnect it from the tranny. chuck the end of that cable into a cordless drill, in reverse, and pull trigger. just don't pull the cable out of the speedo in the process.

i need to get lug off to get wheel off lol

mazdaverx713b 02-25-10 09:58 AM

all you need is another oem cap for the lug. i can sell you one cheap if you'd like. you just tap the cap on and you'll be as good as new. remember, the wheel bolts are all two piece. pics if you'd like.

cool beans

codytheoutlaw 02-25-10 11:14 AM

it happened to me a long time ago. i used a cutting torch to heat the stud till it was red hot, then pounded an 8 point socket on to it. it worked pretty good, but the cap idea sounds better.

djs2571 02-25-10 11:29 AM

1: Find a nut that can fit over the stud and weld the center.
2: Drill out the stud, and then unscrew from the hub and replace the stud.

3: not recommended but drive with the other nuts loose - it'll come off sooner or later. But then you need to repair the car and get a new rim too.
