HELP! Engine knock at high RPM.

So ive got this pretty loud metallic engine knock at high RPM. Its really bad when im in 3rd and hitting about 6k rpm. Replaced fuel filter, Has new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Is this a timing issue. Ive tired playing with the timing. Fully advanced and retard. Though im not sure which way is which. Just i turned it as far as it can go either way. Any help would be awsome

i had the same issue a while back. come to find out i had ran the timing so far advanced that it had cracked the ceramic on the rotor side of the trailing plugs. replacing these plugs solved my problem.

Could be the valves (joke).

Otherwise I'd check to make sure the plug wires are hooked up right and that all is well under the dizzy cap.

If you played with the timing without a timing light, you need to get one of those and do it right.

Make sure that you don't have a loose spark plug. Make sure the distributor cap is on straight, and isn't chewing on the rotor.

Get a timing light and set your timing, you don't want to guess with something like that. Some old timers can tune the timing by ear and feel, but I get the feeling you aren't an old timer.

And check this thread out for other suggestions: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/stock-82-gs-12a-clicking-ticking-noise-771078/

Good luck. :)

Shes times right, No more knocking but she losing fuel all the time now. Can only get up to like 60. Going down hill before she cuts out, ANd thats not good. Gotta get this fixed asap. Is there a fuel strainer in the gas tank?

Theres a fuel filter mounted under the car thats notorious for creating problems, and there are also fuel screens at the intlet of the stock carb.
