gslse s5 engine

So my engine blew 6 months ago. My buddy is selling me a used rebuilt street ported s5 motor with a 12a front cover. The motor has 6,000 miles on it so its pretty new. I want to drop this into my car but i want keep the se fuel injection. According to my research i need to put on the 13b front cover to make it work, anything else i should be looking for? this is my first motor swap.

Thanks for the help guys!!

Just bolt all the s3 stuff on the s5 shortblock. Careful about changing the front cover though, read up on how to do it right.

I think the intake bolt patterns might be off, but let us know.

i agree. i think the lower intake is different where it bolts to the engine. maybe the s5 lower with the upper from the se. that bolt pattern may be different too.

gsl-se thru 1991 model year all have the same intake bolt pattern. the s5 block even has the same air injection passage, so all of the gsl-se intake/exhaust parts will swap right on, and you get larger intake ports and higher compression and lighter rotors.

if you wanna do fab work, use the FC exhaust manifold, its got a larger outlet, and makes more hp. it won't bolt to the rest of the exhaust, but it will make more power.

So let me get this straight everything will swap nicely but i have the option of putting fc exhaust mani but i have to do fab work. Sorry i want to be certain about this, i don't have much cash to spend on this project (poor college student here)

yeah the FC has a 60mm exhaust instead of the 45mm exhaust the 1st gens have.

if you're needing transportation, just use the gsl-se exhaust, and put the FC one on later.

sounds good to me, i hope my heart transplant works.

Yeh, I got an S5 engine in my GSL-SE and everything bolts up fine. Confirmed.
