Fuel pump question
 

My GSL is really hard to start after it's been sitting a few days. That's going to be its life, as it's not a daily driver. Starts great when warm, or in the same day. I've tried the 2 pumps on the acc, pull choke trick, no help. A rotary mechanic says it sounds like the fuel pump is allowing 'bleed back', I guess gas back to the tank.
I'll believe you guys before him, what do y'all think? If is a pump, what should I replace it with (stock 12A, no air pump or cat), Thanks!

Check the fuel filter that could be part of that. If you replace it with a aftermarket pump make sure to get a regulator and try to get a good brand to

i have heard mixed reviews. I so i don not know. You might want to search for after market fuel pumps.

if you only drive the car occasionally, and you have no intentions of modifying it, then just get a universal electric pump (Facet, NAPA, etc) something that pushes at least 5-6 pounds and get a regulator to dial it back to what you need ... that pump shouldn't be more than about 30-45 bucks.

if you have mods planned, then i'll recommend the Carter (not a direct bolt-on) it gets a lot of praise, and i checked it out myself. so far, i'm VERY, VERY pleased with it. it's just a bit noisy ...

You say GSL and not GSL-SE, so this dialog is all based on a carb'd car. You will have gas sitting in the bowls of the carb for at least a week after stopping it, so the fuel should be there to start it on the first crank. Something else is going on. Change your plugs and see if that helps...:cool:

Got new plugs & rotor. Wires are coming (NGK).
Can the gas seep back down from the carb?

I was having never ending fuel pump problems until I hotwired a new line from the battery with a switch. Now she runs like a champ.

dole check your trailing ignitor ti could be the culprit

It's not yer pump. When the pump starts to go, you'll know only when yer fuel demand is at its highest (WOT for long duration).
Don't believe me? Yank the carb feed hose (larger diameter) and watch the fuel gush out.

Either do that, or get a guage and hook it up to your existing line to see how much pressure your pump is pushing.

Btw, don't get a holley unless you like hearing a constant Humm... bastards are loud.

Ok. I figured out that if I pump the gas 6 or 7 times before cranking, fires right up. Just not enough gas in the carb after sitting a while. Still don't know what the actual problem is, but who cares, I know how to start it now. Thanks all!
