fuel problems with holley blue pump and reg.

hey just installed a holley blue pump and low pressure (1-4psi) reg,

i plummed and wired the pump as stated in the instructions using a relay.

the problem is that the pump blows fuel back into the tank working backwards, i have checked and the 'in' on the pump is connected to the fuel tank and the 'out' is connected to the reg. i checked the polarity on the electrical connections and the black is -ve (says so on the pump) and the red is connected to the switched side of the relay. the relay is switched by the old fuel pump wires.

Were have i gone wrong? :dunno:

so i swopped the pump round and it pumps the right way now but the pressure is 8psi out of the reg!? (which was 3psi on the stock pump) should i ajust the reg or have i screwed up the install on the pump?

Were do i go from here?

the pump was serviced by holley when last used and was found to be ok.

Any input greatly Appreciated!

cheers Ollie

you gotta remember that the stock fuel pump only pushes i believe about 3-4 psi. so in that case if the regulator was completly open it won't push no more. so when you put a holley blue on wich pushes op to 15 psi you are going to have to set the regulator again.

ok it just alarmed me to see 9psi on my 1-4 psi reg? should i just reset the reg to 4psi?

thanks for you help.

The Holley blue comes with a regulator that is not in the 1-4 psi range but more into the 14 psi? range

If you are running a Holley carb you need 6-7 PSI.

Show pics of your regulator. Also if you have a turn diel regulator,I personally wouldnt use them, and always run a gauge to get accurate PSI reading

this is an su carb! ok i found part of the problem there is air in the system and the reg works purfectly if you bleed all the air out of the system. if you then reconnect the pipes there is air in it again.

any one had this or know were i messed up?

the pump is very loud also, is this normal?
