Finally taking that jump into the boosted world

That right, I just bought a JDM S4 TII engine to swap into my GSL-SE. I have been planning this swap for a lil under a year and a half now. I THINK I am finally ready to take on this challenge.

I am making a list of all the things I need. Its hard, there seems to be so much info on the swap, but its just not all in one place. So I am having to piece together my own lil how-to.

I plan on installing it stock as it is right now, and focus on getting her up and running before I go all crazy with mods. I am a newbie to the turbo world. I am lucky that I got alot of friends with Turbo II 7's. Some stock, some making over 400hp.

I should be picking up the engine here in a few days. I will keep you guys updated when I get the engine. I already have the 7 in the shop to prep the SE engine bay, and get her ready for the swap. I want to do this right the first time around.

If you have any suggestions, or want to offer your help I will be glad to take it.

-Matt

Thanks man.

My SE is black, but I have always wanted to sell it and get a white one. I love your white SA!

I am waiting for my buddy to come over and then we will start on the strip down of the engine bay!

Are you going to rebuild the motor before you put it in? It seems there are lots of problems with those "JDM" T2 motors.

You can always get a junker... in the same respect though I have seen people run multiple years on a JDM engine...

Sounds like you are on the right track. Just keep at her... it will take a while to sort all the kinks out.

No, Ive read those horror storys about those peoples JDM engines, but I have also read peoples horror stories about Atkins rotary too. I have a Atkins motor in my LE, and it runs flawless. So I guess its just the luck of the draw.

I am getting it from a guy up in Arlington. www.revvinsevens.com It comes with a 6 month 6k warranty. So if the engine blows I know right where im heading. I like that in the fact, that most times when you buy a JDM motor from those import companys, you get what they call a start up guarantee. They guarantee that it will start, but after that your on your own.

My original plan was to rebuild it, but I am going to go ahead and take the risk. Now if this engine does crap out. The next one I get I will rebuild for sure.

Warranty is great and all but the time that it takes to do all the work will not be reimbursed. I recommend that you atleast do a compression test on the motor BEFORE you put it in.

A start up guarentee is only that it will start. Have you seen an engine running on 1 rotor? They start, lol. Definitely do a compression test besfor install. If the #s are low, pull the exhaust mani off and inspect the inside.

While you have the engine out, strip, refurbish, restore and detail the engine bay. Makes a huge difference when the project is finished.

Yes of course I am going to compression test it before I hand over any cash. Curtis said its got 100psi, but he has also got a mazda compression tester and we are going to test it right then and there before any money has changed hands.

If you buy a used rotary, or any rotary for that fact and dont do a compression test you are just asking for trouble.

I didnt start on the engine bay today like I planned it was such a nice day, Sunny and warm unlike the cold and the rain we have been having. I took a break from the shop and took my boat out for a spin, as I just got a new prop for this up comming season and wanted to see how so ran with it.

I will. I also got a new Digi cam for Christmas, so I plan on taking lots of pictures!

Nick, yeah Cameron(HondaHater) ran a JDM in his TII before he started building that beast he has now. You still got my muffler? Is it holding up good? lol

The muffler is still on there. I upgraded the exhaust header too a used racing beat. In terms they would both be great if it wernt for the exhaust leaks

I picked up the engine & tranny yesterday. Its got 100psi on both rotors!! So im happy about that. It needs ALOT of cleaning to bring the shine back, but thats ok.

I am picking up the pieces for the swap, I was lucky enough to get luiml73's driveshaft from his car, since he is getting out of the game now. So thats one custom part, I dont have to worry about.

I plan on starting a new thread to catalog the updates on my swap, so I can just keep updating that post, instead of having alot of different posts.
