Fc Rear Seat install and misc 12a turbo FB pics!!

Hi all,

Last fall I put away my 85 "S" model Fb for the season with a nearly brand new Cartech turbo draw through system bolted on, running but poorly with bad idle and very rich mixture. This summer all the details got sorted out and it runs wonderfully. It has an IHI turbo running at 6 lbs boost which is probably good for 185 bhp at the flywheel. Brand new stock Holley 380 cfm carb with no mods, only changes in power valve and main jets, stock secondary metering plate actually was adequately rich on mixture wise for on boost. Most important for me was it drives like stock in the city and is actually very quiet (with a pronounced snarl to the exhaust note) even with a straight through exhaust system (using RB presilencer and unbaffled SS muffler). On boost it pulls like 200 bhp will do to a 2400 lb car.

ANyway I digress, the thread was about my most recent mod which took about a full day to install - Fc rear seat. I gave up on finding a Fb rear seat from overseas and chanced to find on eBay a maroon Fc rear seat. Taking a gamble that the bean counters at Mazda wouldn't change the colors from late Fb to early Fc I acquired the seat complete with mounting hardware. As you can see, the color match is perfect and the install looks .. well 90% factory in appearance. Had to remove the sheet metal frames housing the rear bins, cut the carpet and also cut the sheet metal to retain the front section as this finishes the foot area carpeting and retains the forward section of the seat. The back bolts into the rear deck area as the does the rear part of the seat (drilling is required!) and the I had to fab some simple back clips from carriage bolts which I bolted into the triangular brace and hammer bent to the correct angle - the original hardware was just too difficult to modify.

With the seat down it still looks stock but there is enough room for my 10 year old son to comfortably ride with us in the back to those important track events. Somewhat cheaper than having to buy a trailer for the car!

The rest of the images show off my VDO vacuum/boost guage iin the clock mount position. I have a Lambdaboy wideband O2 sensor - well worth the expense for accurate tuning and avoiding those nasty pre-ignitions.

Excellent work on the install. I have both blue and rear FC rear seats sitting in the basement. One of these days I'll find all the hardwear and belts for them.

I picked up the seat for $140 USD which luckily included all the hardware. After that it's just sweat and swearing - kind of tight working conditions unless you remove the front seats which I was too lazy too do.

Very Very nice. While I like the stock lether seats, if I could find a set of FC front and rear seats, I think I would do this to my car as well. The car doesn't have near enough side bolsers, and I would love a place to put the kiddo.

2+2 Seating

Thats clean!!! I actually have the orginal 2+2 seats in my car since I imported it from Japan and that looks exactly like my rear seats, in fact the deep bucket may actually allow a little more room than what I have. I can only fit an american size child in the car but when I was in Japan I could comfortably fit four full grown Japanese women.LOL

The back seats from an FC look wonderful. I would almost consider doing that too if I had kids, but see no point since I don't. Definitely good looking though.
