FC oil cooler into 85 GS

I'm looking for a howto on mounting the FC oil cooler in my 85 GS. Preferably somthing with pics... as I just dont know where and how to mount it. I know I'm going to have to cut somthing... I just dont know what.

I would like to still be able to use the stock FC lines if I can, since I allready have them.

yeah i know theres a how to on this someplace
the basic idea is mount it to the fence pipe lookin brace up front, and i think the fc lines work
anyone know where that tutorial is?

I hate this FB, FC, FD shit...

When you say FC you mean a second gen...? If so... they bolt right in utilizing the stock lines and connectors. You just have to bend the lines somewhat to fit your application (in this case into a 1st gen). Just be careful to slightly / slowly bend the lines so you don't kink them. Use your imagination when mounting the oil cooler. There's a big 2'' bar right in front of your radiator that you can mount the cooler to by easily fabbing up a bracket on each side. Easy... like my neighbor's daughter.

there was a GREAT howto.... with picturers an everything. Unfortunately, the site doesnt exist anymore.

Is there a similar tutorial out there?

I'm not a fan of that silly lingo either. I'd rather go by the year, since some 81-85 Rx-7s were differently equipped, yet, the majority calls them FBs.

I bought a 2nd Gen oil cooler, not sure of the year, but it's in nice shape. There are a few threads floating around that can be helpful when installing the oil cooler, but I haven't seen a tutorial yet.

if you like we can use s1-6 for ya :D

I use a second gen oil cooler with the stock lines no prob. I'm also using a radiator out of a 94 turbo eclipse so it all fits, however the oil cooler is held in place with zip ties.

But rubber bands absorb the side to side and top to bottom movement better.....:D

Rx7carl 12-29-02 04:24 PM

I put an FC/2nd gen in my car. But I fabbed up SS aeroquip hoses. If you want pics, I can supply them.

hornbm 12-30-02 03:39 PM

actually, my autoshop teacher suggested setting it up with zip ties.... i wasnt sure if he was serious or not. It might work as a tep fix if anything....

something else I forgot to mention was that I have A/C, so that would make mounting it a little more interesting.

Out of the howtwos I have seen I remember seeing like ONE FC oil cooler one, but nothing on doing it and keeping A/C.... which is a must. I'm going to california and arizona (possibly) this summer.

So how would I moung this in front of tha radiator if I have the A/C thing in the way? Even If I had clearence, wouldn't that just kill flow to th radiator?

Also, RX7carl, I would KILL for THOSE PICS!........... you dont by any chance have A/C do you? :D

I'll take some shots of how my oil cooler is mounted and post them on my website. (I have an A/C) Just tell me what shots you need.

2nd gen oil cooler mod parts list.
- 2nd gen oil cooler
- 2nd gen oil pedistal
- 2nd gen oil return line
- 2nd gen oil feed line
- 2nd gen oil filter
- 2 rubber washers for pedistal

That's all I used, nothing special.

well because i'm in the process of putting an FC engine in my car... most of that stuff isnt a problem.

I just need some pics on how to best mount the thing and run the lines to it. Also I need to know if I need to fabricate anything.

Oh, I didn't realize that it was a FC engine. In any case I mounted the oil cooler on top of the bar infront of the radiator. Just secure it there any way you like. Gum, twist tie, rope, rubber band, ect... ;)
