You guys have posted alot of helpful stuff on VIN's for US and Australia Rx's. I was just wondering if anyone know more about Jap VINS's as I have a Jap import and the numbers dont seem to match up.

Thanks

85rotarypower 12-09-04 11:26 PM

Don't mean to be an ass, but this thread was brought up again for that???? The explaination is in the FAQ, which is where you got this thread from I'm guessing because it was probably into the 20th page by now.

[How many forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb and 1 to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
5 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
17 to flame the spell checkers
10 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"
... another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
8 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy"
5 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
9 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped
4 people to post. can this be made a sticky?
1 new forum member to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again
:rlaugh:  that is the funniest s#!t ever

At least I can see that someone has been reading the FAQ.

Remember again for the record: I asked this question years ago when I had just a few posts... I am no longer confused

Love that signature on how many forum members does it take...
Very Funny. Some things I see as rue from experience on oither forum.
I purchased an '84 GSL-SE recently kind of out of the blue. I am preparing to sell another vehicle (1961 IC Truck) which I loved wrenching on and I needed another project. I think I got VERY LUCKY on this find. She looks great and runs well, but needs TLC. Many electrical items like oil and water temp gauge, interio lights, radio, do not work. Many other items missing or broken too, but nothing show stopping.
It is very fun to drive - I Like being at 5k RPM and being able to go to 8k!
I enjoy all the tech tips and general discussion.

The SA's and the FB'S are also know as first gen's. The Fc's are 2nd gens. FD's are third gens.

Hope this helps.

My 1987 has a FD in the VIN. That doesn't make sense to me... can someone explain why my 1987 wouldn't have a FC in the number?

:wallbash:

DriftFB 11-09-06 01:35 PM

Bringing a thread back from the dead.

You would want to go ask the guys in the second gen section this question. If I remember right the VIN and the chassis code are seperate.

Naegleria_Fowleri 11-09-06 01:47 PM

You do remember right, DriftFB.

And bringing back threads that make our moderator look like a newb is.. well.. funny.

DriftFB 11-09-06 01:52 PM

^+1 I noticed that as well

sintri 11-09-06 01:56 PM

^+2, but I don't belong here :P

If I were Jon, I would lock this thread so as to not make myself look like a noob ever again.

See what happens when you ask a newb questions with a humourous tittle. You learn, grow, don't get flamed, and eventually become a mod so things like this can come back to haunt you.

In all honesty, we could use a few more threads like this that answer some of the more confusing questions, not just the newb ones either.
