fast idle??

hey, rebuilt the carb and put it on runs good but now when i pull the choke i notice that it does not hold the throttle down anymore. the choke pulls out and returns fine and the plate moves but it does not hold @ 3K anymore like it used to...should i be looking at the fast idle??

in other words...what holds open the throttle when the choke is pulled?

There is an electromagnet just behind the knob, inside the dash, that holds the choke. It's driven by the water temp switch & some electrical logic. Make sure you got all your wiring reconnected & didn't mangle the water-temp switch on the back of the water pump when you were putting the carb back in.

ya that seems all in order.......the choke holds and even returns after warm....it just doesnto hold the throttle anymore.

I remember when i used to pull the choke you could feel the gas pedal goign in a litttle bit and hold it there......what mechanism does this?

There is a linkage on the rear side of the carb that connects the choke to the throttle via a cam.

Make sure the fast idle arm is hooked up correctly. It connects to the choke linkage at the bi-metal coil on top and the throttle linkage on the bottom.
