Looks like they were using pure water with extra rust in the cooling system...that is the first time I have seen a stationary gear fail like that.

So is that why you need hardened stat gears when working with super revs? lol

Here are pics of one of the motors I tore down a while ago.

that gear got hammed not really worth showing pics since its not really bridged. |
Hey, I've got a '80 SA sitting at my house right now with the engine locked up. The previous owner said "Well it ran before we parked it". Yes, but then they removed the hood and the carburator, and let it sit for 2 years not covered up. Man, I can't wait to tear that engine apart!
|
I have one that "had only 40k, was running but the body fell apart so I pulled the engine and scrapped the car".
The apex seals were worn to 6mm and the housings had chatter so severe in spots that there were ripples pounded into the steel inserts where the chrome was worn away. Not just FLAKING, mind you, but the steel inserts were worn smooth and pounded deeper into the aluminum in the depressions. Maybe he meant he ran it at 40k RPM instead of 40k miles... Anyway I got an automatic counterweight from that engine, so it was worth $40. |
i tore a 12a down that looked like that
