Embarrassed to ask this: What is this for?

Alright, don't make me feel too stupid, but I NEED to know what this is for. I know i know, call me a noob or whatever but I would rather learn than break something.

Thanks!
Chris

"What's a dickfor?"

Sorry.

Cold Start. If the ECU decides it's too cold to start your rotary, it'll shoot in a little antifreeze mix from that reservoir to artificially displace some air. The result is that it bumps your compression up to make it easier to start. It's total crap, and was removed by Mazda dealers under a TSB.

I like to fill with MMO or ATF, put a switch to that output pin on the ECU, and smoke people out at will.

Either that, or junk it.

And This Is Now....

SOLVED!!!!

chris_g 01-15-08 02:14 PM

Alright, well I knew there would be atleast one smartass remark.

Thanks for the help though, I seriously appreciate it.

This can be locked/closed.

mazdaverx713b 01-15-08 02:31 PM

i choose to keep mine for originality sake. i never minded the sub zero starting assist.

ray green 01-15-08 02:39 PM

Chris, if you decide to remove it, save the pump motor, I think it is the same one that pumps the front and rear washer fluids.

And no, that was not a stupid question, it's just that a lot of us have nothing better to do than spend our days reading and memorizing the posts so we can seem smart and harass the newbies. All in fun, we're really not that bad.

Ray

SIXSERIESCSI 01-15-08 02:40 PM

Yeah That was a little smart, No Hard Feelings Egh.

Sub-Zero Start Assist. Yank that bitch outta there, more than likely, it doesn't work. Hardly any do. I ripped mine out a long time ago.

MosesX605 01-15-08 04:51 PM

I've still got the resevoir sitting there, but haven't used it for years. I like the idea of a 'smokescreen at will' use for it, though.

Tom Deutsch 01-16-08 12:48 PM

Glad I wasn't the last to ask!

locopr1 01-16-08 01:32 PM

Do you remove it by just disconnecting the wire or do you have to remove the hose to the carb and plug it up?

Crit 01-16-08 01:41 PM

Remove the reservoir from the bracket, unplug, pull the tubing off the carb, and toss it. Take the bracket off the firewall, and toss it. Cover the barb on the carb with a vacuum cap.

redbstd 01-16-08 08:29 PM

ah ha thats what all those extra connectors are for over there. i just thought mazda was retarded and put connectors were none were needed. looks like crap. will be gone as soon as i rewire.

kymber39845 01-16-08 09:46 PM

:nono:You guys are so bad! You guys dissed me at first and I thought it was because I was a girl...apparently it was because I was a super noob! :dunno: LOL Poor guy...you didn't scare me off...hope he's not gone for good!

Crit 01-16-08 10:04 PM

Yeah, I wonder about all the rx-7s I see around Atlanta. I wonder why I never see them online, as I THINK this is the biggest owner's site for our cars. Then I remember what a pain in the ass it is to be a noob. I wonder what the attrition rate is around here - what percentage have 20 posts or less after registering for more than a few months.

redbstd 01-16-08 10:20 PM

idunno but if they cant take a little hazzing wtf!!!!! I mean come on its part of any club.

I was fairly active on the old sa22c mailing list, but then it went away. I joined on
here back in 2002 or so, but then forgot about it.

I figure that as long as I don't diss Optima batteries, I'll be ok... :D

hmmm...I rather enjoy it! ;)

chris_g 01-16-08 11:31 PM

I actually knows how it feels to be a more knowledged member on another board I am an active member on and I do the same thing, which is why I knew I would get bashed for it.

But hey, it seems like there is a great group of people on here who know their shit.

I am sure many more people will have this question, so now it has an image for further clarification. Awesome, right?

I am not going to be leaving, there is too much to learn for me to leave over a thread about me asking a question for further clarification.

Ah well, I am sure I will have many more 'noob' questions, so get used to me.

Thanks for those who helped and contributed, and also thanks to those who just felt like chatting, lol.

Chris!

And if I hadn't been so lazy when the last thread came around, it'd be in the FAQ by now...

But seriously guys you've really gotta stop hazing the newbies. Throw them a bone before you tell them to search. We were all newbs once. Hell, one of my newbie questions got immortlized in the FAQ way before I became a mod.

Jon

cpa7man 01-17-08 07:18 AM

Jon is right for sure.

I had two (new) RX-'s in the early 80's, so even guys like me "forget" what some of these parts are. I was looking thru my storage area last year and found one of those cold start assist things and said to myself, "what the hell is this, the washer fluid bottle" had to pull the parts list of the Mazdaspeed site. Most of us don't have those anymore on our cars. I did not realize there was a TSB for the dealers to remove them.

Chris welcome to the forum, lurk around here you will learn a lot.

For the lounge, the non-rech section, fine. But this is the tech section, we're supposed to help, not haze, keep that in miind. All of the other rotary forums refer to us as the 'Evil Forum' for what you think is OK and normal. Personally, I find neither acceptable.

Interacting with members here on the forum is like any face to face relationship. If you want to be taken seriously and earn respect, you must give it first. Noobs come here to ask and learn about there cars, not get bent over or bitch slapped.

Knobs on the other hand manage to earn thier own place by berating new members to bolster thier own immature egos.
