Question Electrical Problem?

I hadn't driven my car in about three days since I lost my keys. -_- But I just found them and start her up and things were fine. It's been pretty cold here too...temps getting below zero and highs of only 15-20 degrees (F).

But anyway, I was driving around and noticed when I was in the turning lane, waiting at idle, the right turn signal was flashing fast...then it would go back to normal and then fast. It was just kinda erratic. At the same time my tach was jumping from 800 rpms to about 1200 rpms or so when the flasher was on. But when off it wouldn't jump at idle. The left flasher seemed to have no effect on anything. Also, I noticed that when the flasher was on the voltmeter thing would kinda jump back and forth. Not allot, it's kinda barely noticable...probably normal, eh?

Anyway, I was just kinda wondering what's up with that. I'm thinking maybe cuz of the cold weather or maybe my flasher is going, who knows.

Um..also, I noticed (this has been going on ever since I got the car) I hear a sound...like a click coming from the dash or under the dash. Sounds like a fuse is going, but thing is...a fuse didn't blow. I dunno what's up with that. I hear it and I always think it's a fuse that blew, and I check them all and they're fine.

Through out all of these problems, my car acted as it normally would.

Thanks in advanced. If you need any more info, just tell me. I'm a newbie when it comes to Rx7s and I'm still learning my way around things.

sounds like the flasher unit is trying to short itself. i'd turn it on and crawl under the dash to track which black box the noise is coming from. then you'll have your problem.

A rapid blinker usually means that a bulb went out.

That's what I was thinking, but it's not constantly rapid. It will flash quickly...then slow down...then go back up..then slow down. Plus, why would this effect the tach? When the right blinker was on, it'd jump.

(I just went out and drove the car and there weren't any problems then. Maybe it's the cold)

I just thought about the sticking tach issue with the Series 2. Not sure how to fix this though or what causes this - never thought about looking into it.

Sounds like a corroded bulb socket to me. The bulb is probably okay, but there is probably a high resistance that "looks" like an open until the current stabilizes.
Try cleaning the sockets with a mildly abrasive Scotchbrite pad. I use the green ones.

Well, that tach doesn't stick...it just kinda jumpes when the blinker was on. I dunno. I drove it again and had no problems...so...maybe it was just the cold getting to it after sitting for 3 days.
