Elec fan/radiator question

What are the dimensions of the stock radiator? I've found a dual Nissan elec fan for a good price I was gonna pick up.

Makenzie71 11-05-03 10:37 PM

What's kind of elec fan is used mostly by FBers?

Get a black magic flex-a-lite (Part 150) fan from Summit Racing. It will pull more air than any duel fan.

Im using a 16 in mr.gasket electric fan, and from what i can tell, it works great. here's a picture, it fits quite well actuallyhttp://rx7.4gencelica.net/IMG_0053.jpg

Or you can grab the fan out of a 1st generation Sable/Taurus. It's a single large shrouded fan and the shroud is within a 1/4 iinch the dimensions of our radiators all the way around. Zip tie it in and you've got a great ducted fan.

Same with a ford Contour... get the fan from the 6cyl version though.

disregard...I posted to the wrong person...

Well, I basically can get a dual fan from a 1996 maxima for free. How can you make a blanket statement that the black magic pumps more air without knowing the CFM of other fans?

I use the fiero gt elec fan, works fine.

Because I did a lot of research before buying mine, and now thats the opinion I have (as well as many others on this forum). :) 2800cfm baby! :D I found one duel puller somewhere on summit that pulled 4000cfm but it was 28 inches wide (2 12" fans if i remember). Most of the other duel fans didn't come close to the flex-a-lite 150.

I may just go with the dual maxima fan. 190hp stock with a 3.0l V6. The radiators on those cars are really small so I would think the fans would have to provide some major CFM. When doing things on a budget, FREE is always a good word.

Sorry to quote your picture as well as your thread, but I have the exact same fan and radiator. :D

I 've had Maxiama's and I always thought the electric fan on them sucked. That is the main reason I don't want to put and electric fan on my fb is because of all the problems I had with my Maxiamas.

interesting. Mine is a 1996 and all I have done since new is put gas in it, change the oil, change the radiator fluid, change tranny fluid, spark plugs, front and rear brake pads and a couple of fuel filters. Flushed the brake fluid a few times. I use Mobile 1 tranny fluid and oil. Oh yeah, put a set of tires on it here and there.

It has FSTB, RSTB, poly swaybar bushing, JWT cone intake, installed factory fogs myself along with factory indash 6 disc changer. Put some P225 55 16s on it.

Back to the fan issue. It gets around 100 degree in the peak of summer around here. The temp gauge has never gone higher than 1/3 the way up. I know a guy that has a supercharged maxima and he still runs the stock radiator and fans. No overheating issues.

Jeff20B 11-06-03 02:52 PM

Your Maximas had stock electric fans. We're talking about aftermarket electric fans. Aftermarket is usually better.

Dude, go Fiero fan all the way! My car never gets above 160-170 no matter how hot it is outside! I have attached a pic of it

It looks like it has 4 super wide blades. Am I seeing correctly? THat shroud looks like a perfect fit. Nice!

Makenzie71 11-06-03 07:22 PM

was there a difference in the 4cyl and 6cyl Fiero fans?

85rotarypower 11-06-03 07:39 PM

I have a Ford Escort fan. Looks exactly like another aftermarket fan just with a larger shroud. Fits perfectly on the rad too. I can't remember who made the aftermarket fan that looks like it.

nice fan but isn't 160 too cold for full operating temp since thermostat opens @ 185 ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

jsinrx7 11-06-03 08:45 PM

I thought that it was running too cold too, but apparently my thermostat is opening because there is definetely some circulation. So maybe it is running a little higher than 170 but my needle only gets up to like 1/4 way on the gauge. It works awesome, probably won of best mods yet.

mar3 11-06-03 09:23 PM

Derale 2100 cfm...fits real nice inside the factory '80 shroud and some of the bottom tip of the fan spills out to pull air through the bottom oil cooler....or, at least, it did before I totaled the beast!!...;)
