do i need an upgraded fuel pump?

i've got a streetported 12a with a webber 48, and headers. i have the fuel pressure regulator already. is this engine starving from fuel? i mean will it make a difference to upgrade the pump?

i have a dellorto 48mm carb and my stock 12a pump had trouble keeping up..i just installed a gslse pump with tank and lines and a mallory fpr..made a difference in response a bit and i noticed that the carb was running a lot better.

One way to be sure is to T-in a pressure gauge, tape it to the windshield, and monitor the pressure while you're at WOT. If the pressure drops and the power falls off at the same time, you know you have a supply issue.

I am putting on a 45, and I was recomende to upgrade the fuel pump, so I'd have to assume that if it is a recomendation on a 45 it would be more so on a 48. I figured it's better to be safe and sure than sorry and parked.

ok thanks

apparently this car ran 15.4 in the 1/4 mile....im thinking it should be in the 14's with the upgrades it has

no lsd :(

lol, stock pump is barely enough for the stock carb. And don't even get me started on the fuel filter they stuck us with! :)

PercentSevenC 12-17-09 11:14 AM

I've had stock carbs run out of fuel on long WOT runs with the stock pump.

Avoid Facet fuel pumps from RB. Stock carbs run out during full throttle runs.

I might be able to get a Carter.

Wow all this time I didn't know the stock pumps were that bad.

Jeff20B 12-17-09 04:57 PM

Carter is good, but loud. When I mounted mine to the unibody frame of the FB, it only made a buzzing noise. Same as the ladder frame in the REPU. Quite tolerable. But in the GLC it was really loud due to the differences back there.

Here's my writeup on the installation of a Carter fuel pump & Holley regulator. Also some nice discussion on mounting the pump, and noise control.
