Differences Between SA/FB Widebody Kits

Hey there guys,
I've been out of the FB game for almost exactly a year now. I'm curious as to who can help me out with the differences between the different widebody kits made for the First Gen RX-7's. I've always wanted to own one and now I have an opportunity to. I want to know what I'm jumping into before I make the leap.

Kits that I know of:

Mariah Mode One

Mariah Racing IMSA GTU

Dave Kent's widebody version 2 according to the website???

Mariah Racing IMSA GTO-1

CP Racing

Car that I could purchase:

I'd just like to see if any of you could help me out in identifying what kit is actually on this car and whether I can justify getting buying it.

I own none of these pictures linked above, nor claim any right to them whatsoever. They're just being used here in this post to help me get a better understanding of what kit I'd be buying on an RX7.

The front looks a little bit like a Kent.

Thanks man, that's what I've been thinking too. Just the square holes for the fog lights that keep throwing me off. Maybe an early build?

Anyone else seen this rear end before? I know I've seen it somewhere but can't figure it out. Looks like C3 Corvette tail lights to me...

Are there any SA guys that can help me figure out which trim level this SA is? I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks!

It doesn't have a sunroof as far as I can tell so it makes it a G or GS. I believe the sunroof was still an option of the GS.

Also, because the dash has the speak holes, it's an early VIN.

Looks like a golden opportunity to bone up on your fiberglass skills with a classic. Go for it.

Its a knock off Kent from the 80's, there was a lot of companies out of California making molds.

Are those lights molded in the back, I would try to go back to stock lights.

Check out the photos of mine, u will see the difference in the front.

Grab that car man, or send me the info :)

I'm wrestling with the idea of picking up a Kent body from Mariah.

Yeah seriously, get it, get it NOW!

RxTex 08-11-14 10:41 AM

Definitely looks knock off/ backyard custom. Not my cup of tea

Nor mine, but as Cookboy said, it's a great excuse to learn/practice body work to undo the many issues it has. Also a good excuse to change some of it and make it look better.

Why everyone 15-20 years ago felt the need to put anything other than stock SA/FB tail lights on these cars is beyond me... I've never seen any that look at all correct. Just my 2 cents.

The blue car seems to be making multiple appearances on here. https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-non-...price-1069334/

The Kent kit is nicely rounded and faired around the nose; that blue car... gotta say, I don't like the flat, square, abrupt transitions around the sides of the nose.

Difference is the buyer. No offense to u but u don't seem to have much mechanical experience to be able to troubleshoot a project car, especially considering u want it to be a daily driver whereas L has done TII swap before.

thecody59 08-12-14 06:25 PM

Yes but now things have changed since there won't be a trade so the red will be the dd so this car i can take the time to work on while i have the red 79.
