the streetport exhaust system does not collect until it enters the main muffler. look up the theory behind long primaries and it should make some sense.

If you don't have to pass emissions the streeport exhaust is the way to go. I have it and it's not tinny at all, Rather a deep note to it until you step on the loud pedal then watch out!!!

so it sounds good?
i've heard some people say the the rb system is too quiet for them, i dont really want a shitty rice one but i would like a nice deep agressive sound, maybe the normal one is quieter than the sp one?
about emissions i have a brand new cat so i figure i could just put that in once a year when i have to run it through emissions, or if you wanna be sneaky you can cancel your insurance just before aircare runs out then reinsure it, you get a free year.

The SP muffler is a little louder and flows better since its a larger inlet model.I run 14psi of boost into my SP 13BT and my streetport muffler has done just fine for years.Just about ANY non-turbo setup will work fine with it.
Its still a nice deep sound with no tin.The SP system requires an 81-82 dual style mid-pipe.

When people always say they want a 'deeper more aggressive' sound, do you mean like some kind of Muscle car?

Because, no matter WHAT muffler you put on it, your rotary will NOT sound like a big block V8!

Maybe a 20B sounds like a smaller V8, but not the 12A or 13B.

A 20B sounds sorta like a flat head V12... maybe.

If you need/want to put a cat on, Just go with the steetable version. You will still get very good gains and be able to put a cat on it and it comes with an 02 sensor bung if you order it through Mazdatrix. Btw, You will have to upgrade or have your carb "Sterlingized" to see reported gains.

I saw huge gains without modding the carb. I'm sure it will be better once I have it "sterlingized" though. Also, these sytems get a little louder, and sound better, after some use. Mine is almost a year old now, and has great sound. Nice and quiet and deep until you really get on it, then she roars!

The full-length RB presilencers are the way to go. Had one on my RX4 running the stock muffler and it sounded very throaty.

I have the "mini" version on my SA and it sounds a little more raspy and louder.

The way to go is SP headers to custom pipe to RB muffler.
Sounds GREAT.
Saying that you wont get gains without modding your carb isn't necessarily true. You'll see gains. You won't see MUCH gain, but you'll see a gain.

Remember, an exhaust only works on what's coming OUT of the motor. You have to put more or a better mixture INTO the motor to see BIG gains ( no matter what any random street tuner magazine/show tells you ).

I think, au contraire to what I used to tell people, that before you go upgrading your exhaust, you should at LEAST get a better fuel pump and a pressure regulator. This will cause a great background for you to gain power off of, even if it doesn't give you IMMEDIATE power gains.

Well, I say go with the SP system simply because you never know if you'll port it later on down the line.

So, I'm guessing that you want your car to sound something like an old Z car?

speaking of my friend just bought a 240z
gutted interior, caged, huge turbo, 275 tires on the back, stroked to a 2.9 or 3 litre, cams, valves everything.
one of the fastest, coolest and best sounding cars i've been in.
so yes i wouldn't mind it sounding something like that.

The SP system sounds great over stock. Not great in a rice way (tinny brap), but great in a "maybe this thing does have *****" way.

When I emailed RB asking this very same question, they told me this system offers ~+5HP over the single primary system.

Are you planning on switching from stock to RB SP? A large factor to keep in mind is that without a cat the exhaust is going to reek something awful of gasoline fumes. I mean headache or 2-cycle bad.

If I had it to do over--for a non-ported daily driver--I'd get the non-SP system and use a high-flow cat.

From stock RX7 exhaust?

If you have a modified carb, you'll see about 20 extra horsepower at WOT. If you're ported, you'll see an even bigger gain (as the system is designed to make use of the streetported system.)

Of course you're gonna see an improvement over stock, That's why I said REPORTED GAINS as per RB.

I've got the RB SP system, and it's seriously one of the best things I've ever bought for any car I've owned.
