Pointing the sub towards the hatch gives you that length, and also the resonance from the hatches shape. Check out my new box, all figerglassed, completely to the subs specs. sure kinda looks like a rocket, but it sounds great.
You're setup looks really tight and stock though, its a good tradeoff

that's awesome, and i too tried many angles for my sub and found that where you have yours yielded the best and most clean bass. altho, my box utterly sux. could you get another angle pic of your current "rocket"? :D

im gonna go with audiobarhn sounds and to a 1000rms 12" itl be a pity if i cant do it like yours :)
great stuff people are showing

the amp i had also fit (barely) in the same compartment. I took it out because it keeps cutting in and out (Freebie from a friend...same thing happened to him). I tried it under the seat first but there is really no room under there and the amp was only about 2" high. Good luck with getting a 12" in there. Once the bin is removed, there is just barely more than 8" from top to bottom where the metal is. Of course you could always go with a setup like John64 has. :)

mis information huh? you just said yourself that you hit 141db with 2 12"s in the storage bins, and 145 with 1 15" in the back....which do you like better? i wil assume the back since it is your current configuration

my 4 12"s would have hit alot harder if it was better equipment, and using today's db meters....it was 12 years ago when i had my system, and db meters seem to read real high these days

bottom line....if you want hard hitting deep bass, put the subs in your hatch....if you want just better sound, and punchy bass, go ahead and put em in the bins....but one thing i will guarantee is that the same subs with the same amp in different locations, the rear will be louder than the storage bins

TiViD 01-31-06 10:38 PM

i do have to agree with that statement .
for me it was a compromise between sound and trying to keep looking stock-ish, but yeah it sounds better when i move the sub up onto the deck area.

i have my amp in my drivers storage bin, where did you end up putting yours? Have you had a sound check on it yet to see how it sounds? I'm sure it sounds fine because I did the same thing, but did not construct a box. I slapped down a piece of board and bolted it over the bin hole. It really makes the music more full, unless you listen to rap. In that case it just sounds like your hole car is going to shake apart. nice work, maybe if i'm not too lazy i can get some pics up of my setup

GavinJuice 02-01-06 11:11 PM

gezz anything over 500rms in a hatchback is puhlenty if you have it setup properly. half the stuff out there is overrated with a higher voltage anyways. i would worry about some sob punching my hatch if they saw a box sittin in the back. then i would kill

TiViD 02-02-06 11:41 AM

yeah the JL is only like 200w. Its a modest system but its plenty for me. The amp sits behind the box. It fits just barely. I think it sounds pretty good. My friend has the same exact sub in his G1 integra and it sounds a little better just cause of placement and resonation (plus his amp is way nicer). Since my amp is Ka-put I am thinking of getting a JL 250w amp. Need to save up though, JL is high end :)
