I agree with Mose, a loose steering box isn't the cause of freeway wandering. My steering's as loose as it gets and the car tracks fine at speed.
I'd love the responsiveness of a good R&P system, but I rather go with a factory-new steering box than the CP rack, from all I've heard. Even with the sloppy steering, the car is still a blast to drive. more fun than my Miata. |
the cp rack also disables the saftey feature of your steering column.
you get to get impaled on it with the rack conversion... it doesnt take much of an accident to fold a car up pretty good. at racing speeds im suprised people would even consider the risk. that being said i wouldnt mind testing a rack out to see if i like it. |

i hadnt heard that.
some people i really respect in the community really like the setup but not that the saftey feature is gone. I cant imagine they missed something as simple as a nylon fastener.. |

Obviously my situation is a bit differenent, since I want to goto a R&P to easily clear long tube headers on my V8, in addition to tightening my steering. I've been looking into the Omni & Ford Mustang II / Pinto racks. Company called Flaming River makes fast ratio versions of popular hot rodding racks. I just need to do more placment research on minimizing bumpsteer, etc. |
I'm surprsied anyone got a response back from CP. Even amongst all my current situations with them I asked about the R&P with a V8 and they once again never responded to me. Just like getting me my refund which I still havn't seen yet.
