When everything is in spec, my car will go in a straight line down the highway at 75 MPH without me touching the wheel. Now, I don't have larger than stock wheels, which will make a difference, I know, but overall if you have that much difficulty on the highway, somthing isn't right in the front end.

I'd like to hear from Henry on whether or not his steering feel/response was at all improved by the second version of this kit.

I agree with Mose, a loose steering box isn't the cause of freeway wandering. My steering's as loose as it gets and the car tracks fine at speed.

I'd love the responsiveness of a good R&P system, but I rather go with a factory-new steering box than the CP rack, from all I've heard. Even with the sloppy steering, the car is still a blast to drive. more fun than my Miata.

the cp rack also disables the saftey feature of your steering column.

you get to get impaled on it with the rack conversion...

it doesnt take much of an accident to fold a car up pretty good.
at racing speeds im suprised people would even consider the risk.

that being said i wouldnt mind testing a rack out to see if i like it.

Reactivating it is as easy as using a nylon screw.

I cant imagine they missed something as simple as a nylon fastener..

My car is the exact same. My car drives straight as an arrow, but if you get into a rut or the like at 60+ MPH you better keep your grip on the wheel. Just gets very 'darty'.

Obviously my situation is a bit differenent, since I want to goto a R&P to easily clear long tube headers on my V8, in addition to tightening my steering. I've been looking into the Omni & Ford Mustang II / Pinto racks. Company called Flaming River makes fast ratio versions of popular hot rodding racks.

I just need to do more placment research on minimizing bumpsteer, etc.

I'm surprsied anyone got a response back from CP. Even amongst all my current situations with them I asked about the R&P with a V8 and they once again never responded to me. Just like getting me my refund which I still havn't seen yet.

LOL, but they could miss blocking the oil drain plug? Maybe you're giving them too much credit.

The horn needs a metal connection between the inner and outer shaft, but that's easy enough to do.

They pretty much hung the phone up on me when I discussed my V8 R&P needs. Hence me having to fab my own. Not sure which V8 you have, but the double sump Windsor pan is making my rack placment possibilities 'interesting'.

Someone also suggeted Honda Civic racks to me, like the old 88-91 CRX/Civic Si manuals. They're pretty quick and also very compact. They mount in the Hondas with what amounts to circular clamps.

They mount very easily with very little hardware. If you need a picture of how that mounts, I can see if I can get one for you. (my other car is a 91 crx si)
