I agree wholeheartedly....

Coilovers involve removing the stock spring, and replacing it with a spring of smaller diameter. It also comes with an adjustable perch that allows you to set the ride height. The springs can be ordered in any spring rate you could want.

Replacement strut inserts work like this: you remove the stock strut, remove all of the guts, and slide in a sealed strut cartridge in place of what you removed. Pretty simple if you have some tools to work with.

If you need some expert advice, send Bwaits a Private Message with your questions (he runs Respeed). He will answer all of your questions and steer you in the right direction. He took great care of me, and I've ended up with a car that handles like nobody's business.

Struts are a self contained unit that has both the dampner, (shock), and spring in one piece. This setup is usually limited to the front suspension and is known as a MacPhearson strut. Shocks are seperate from the springs and limited to the rear suspension now days for most cars. Trucks still have shocks and springs front and rear, usually coil springs in the front and leaf springs in the rear. Coil overs are a modified version of the MacPhearson strut that allows the lower spring seat to be adjusted up or down, changing the ride height of the front end. Coil overs also allow for different spring heights to be used.

Unless you plan on getting into some kind of racing or performance driveing, coil overs aren't really needed. A good stock replacement are the Tokico Blues along with new springs to replace the old, worn out and sagging stock springs. My personal preference for replacement springs are the Eibach Black Pros, which are no longer availible. Next best option are the Racing Beat springs or the ones that Re-Speed has to offer.

Thanks for putting it in a package and tieing a string and putting a bow on it. Great explaination for us not as mechanically inclined as others!
