choke problem, possible solution?

Ok i just bought a 82 and first thing i noticed is the choke system is really weird on these cars and obviously it was a problem to the previous owner too because every cable going to this carb doesnt look right or is rigged to hell..

Remember i still dont clearly know where all these cables go or how they all work together but the hot assist i believe, cable is tied in a not to itself and is unplugged, if i plug it in it will always even with the ignition on will make a buzzing noise, the choke cable inside the car will not pull or push as if it is jammed, the choke is in the closed position all the time unless i move it with my finger at the carb, and there is one of the choke cables i believe near the throttle cable looped to another location on the carb and that cable is tied in a knot to attach itself to the carb, which i know is not right but im not sure what the correct setup is anyways.. If im making no sense at all just tell me and i will try to get some pics for ya!

So my question is. Is it possible to just get a ebay universal choke cable and conenct that to the carb and get rid of the hot assist and the other factory choke junk?? Or no? I am a tech for nissan (2 years) toyota (1 year) so im not stupid but when it comes to carbs i am lost.

Only one choke cable. Hot start assist has nothing to do with choke.
The choke cable should be mounted through the top hole on the cable bracket.
It is the cable in the center of these two pictures. A few pictures of your carb would help

The looped cable is your hot start assist cable looped around and fastened to the lever the choke cable should be attached to. If the hot start assist cable is removed, the lever it attaches to will fall down and jam the throttle linkage open. When this happens the car will not idle below 3000 rpm or so. Two cables come out of the firewall from the same hole. One is the throttle cable, the other is the choke cable. If your choke **** will not pull out, either the end of the cable is wrapped around something in the engine compartment or it is seized internally.

The spark plug is blocking off your shutter valve. This is common procedure if the valve is bad and deemed too hard or expensive to fix. http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/shutter.htm

The unscrewed part is the throttle return spring. A little fuzzy, but it and the main throttle spring appears to be correctly attached. More carb pictures...http://intertron.com/ron/images/carb
