Changing Pads <e-brake Cable in the Way>
 

Hey guys, I'm having trouble changing my rear pads on my '83 gsl. It's very simple, there's the handbrake cable that I can't figure out how to get off. I need to rotate the caliper off the bracket to take the pads out of their clips. But the handbrake cable is preventing it from doing so. How do I remove this thing? Also, I won't need any advise about rotating in the piston to accommodate the new pads, I found it's very easy with two screwdrivers or a cube thingy. Thanks

Loosten the adjuster inside the car. you should get enough slack to pull the end of the cable and twist it a 1/4 turn, This lets the end slip through the atachment point on the caliper.

junk that cube style caliper kit and buy a complete set from harbor freight for about $20. that includes the front kit as well. Thats a good investment IMHO.

There's an adjuster inside the car? Where? Pics please, this may solve my e-brake problem (if I pull it at 30mph in N you would think my tires would lock up).

remove the hand brake panel. you will see it.

Well, the roads are wet right now so this might make for some interesting test zones!

Took the little cover off but I dont know how to adjust it what to adjust, etc.

the adjustor is threaded in the cable.

The adjuster is the tall part to the right of the handle. Has a Flat screwdriver slot in the top of it. Tighten just like a bolt with the handle down. Tighten a bit and then test again.


You also have some adjustmet at the calipter. Two nuts that can be moved in and out as needed.

Tried it and I still can't move the cable out of the caliper. oh well. I'll have a mechanic do it

Put the ebrake down, Use a pair of plyers to compress the ebrake portion of the caliper.
