Center dash removal?

How would I go about removing the gray plastic piece that surrounds the stero and clock, etc etc without breaking anything? I glanced at it for a sec today and didnt see any screws or anything like that, my clock has a mind of its own so ima put an oil psi gauge where it lies lol

I just pulled apart my bro's 84 GSL and we both had a bit of trouble finding out how to get it out.

We got it out, but I can't remember if there were any screws, I thought it was just snapped in place pretty tight.

Anyone remember? I love those 84-85 interiors, but the simplicity of my 82 is nice. heh

take off the plastic around the shift boot......pull the rubber up and over the gear lever...then there will be 2 screws in the lowwer left and right of the center console......the pull the ash tray and deal with the 2 screws there...then there are another 2 up below the airvents that point up....take all these off...then take the knob off of the climate controls...and bang your done

No, you also need to take the nuts off that are behind the climate control knobs as well if he has the knobs. If he has the slide type controls, then he needs to pull the rubber ends off the sliders ;).

Also remove the ashtray, makes it easier. Pull the bottom up a little, then wiggle it straight out. The upper vents make this necessary.

and remember that those ends are screwed on!

hmm..the 1985 parts car just had two screws holding it on...

So, if that was hard to follow...

- Get under the shift boot and pop out the little plastic shifter-surround piece by pulling on the plastic tabs.

- Pop out the ashtray

- Unscrew the screws that were under the plastic surround you just removed and behind the ashtray (although I dont remember any behind the ashtray)

- Pull on the climate control knobs and take off the two nuts behind them

- Rip out the remaining plastic while making a Godzilla type roaring sound

I don't remember pulling rubber ends off of anything either, but then I don't know if I have these so-called slider type controls. *shrug*
