Is a bridgeport good for a weekend car

Just wondering if a bridgeport will be good for a weekend car

KansasCityREPU 08-08-22 10:00 PM

Not really. A bridgeport idles high and is loud. Not a weekend cruiser.

ATC529R 08-08-22 10:06 PM

Maybe weekend drag strip.

Then you have your answer. Go full bridgeport.

dguy 08-09-22 12:08 PM

It can be, depends on the size of the bridge and overlap.

peejay 08-09-22 12:37 PM

Mine will idle just happy at 900rpm.
my stock port 12A idles at 1100.

ATC529R 08-09-22 12:41 PM

not only will it be very loud, you will have zero bottom end. you'll feel pretty silly with a mean sounding brap brap and a civic pulls past you easily because you weren't at the absolute perfect rpm.

raven12aFB 08-09-22 02:05 PM

Yes.....the louder the better........

Indeed. Nothing says "i have never had a bridge port" more than saying they have no low end.

j9fd3s 08-09-22 06:15 PM

i think there is another thread about this, but the two P ports we have running around here idle 900-1000, we could go lower but the carb doesn't really like it.
if you can open the throttle, the power curve is like a stock FD, comes on at 2500 and just pulls....

and part throttle its kind of touchy, and its not really happy.

think of it like a golden retriever puppy, its happy and excited to just chase stuff

peejay 08-10-22 04:34 PM

Especially with a 9lb flywheel. Crazy quick throttle response, the engine is a big overexuberant puppy when allowed to run. But sullen and grumptacular when forced to putt around at light throttle.

Hahaha love this analogy. (Only have 12A streetport experience)

WANKfactor 08-10-22 08:00 PM

So, long story short, a nice BP done properly is the perfect weekend car if you like brap brap.

j_tso 08-10-22 08:13 PM

It depends on what you do on the weekend.

I thought Rad Potential's video on street driving a bridgeport was pretty informative.

WANKfactor 08-10-22 08:43 PM

50mm carb tho. Pretty rough and dirty set up. Even then its not that bad.

Depends on how good/bad your tune is.

How large is your fuel tank, and how far away from a gas station do you like to go on your weekend drives?

I have seen 27mpg with a bridge port, although closer to typical is 20-24 depending on if I am towing or not.

WANKfactor 08-12-22 01:49 AM

That is the perfect weekend car if you ask me!
Damn that looks like a sweet driving car.

From what I have heard Bridge Porting is best for drag strip power, I would personally go for a large Street Port. This is what I plan on doing in the future as it will still be streetable but it will still have high horsepower. The RX8 in Formula Drift uses a large streettport and gets 600-800 hp without nitrous so you dont need bridgeport to be loud or to get epic braps or for power. I would go street
