breaking in???

how do you suggest breaking in my motor?? i've heard sum let it sit and idle all day, and sum drive it for 1000-1500 miles.......

Dr_Jeff 03-01-06 05:54 PM

drive it for 3-5000 miles, use some common sense, if you bought a new car, how would one expect it to be treated.

jeff

aarons 03-01-06 05:59 PM

c-mon now......serious???
3-5000 miles be4 i can c what its got........that'll kill me

MattG 03-01-06 06:00 PM

You got to vary your driving patterns too, you know dont keep doing the same old same old, Change it up go to differnt RPM on different days and time, Not REDLINE'n it!

Ahhh But What the Hell:

Thats just what Ive heard and seen other people do. I on the other hand ran it for about 100 miles and was hittin 8k the next day! Still got 110 compression after a year!! But back thn I was young, dumb, full of cum! lol

And, you wonder why we pick on you. ;)

But anyways, as per breaking the car in, I've heard to vary your driving, normally, no hot dogging, up to about 1500 miles. After that, you should be good to go. But, then again, this is on a crate V8, and how they suggested it. To make sure all parts, bearings, seals, etc are settled correctly. But, since the rotary has only 3 moving parts, you might not have to go so high. I'd say just take it easy for the first month.

Dont make me bust it out 85FB!!! lol

85 FB 03-01-06 06:43 PM

Please. You and what army? I got a clean alternator that says it'll whoop you with it's less drag coefficient. ;)

aarons: Is this a brand new rebuilt motor in your 7? 12A or 13B?

Roundabout 03-01-06 07:04 PM

I'd say that your good to go after 500 miles, just make sure you change your oil before you redline it

aarons 03-01-06 07:20 PM

yea its rebuilt 13b with a streetport....new rb flywheel....and rb full sp exhaust system

aarons 03-01-06 07:22 PM

MattG 03-01-06 07:23 PM

I think the words streetport, RB, and broke, go together like peas in a pod

Oh BTW 85 FB, BRING IT!!!! I gots your rx7 army! Sure wouldnt mine a clean alternator either!

aarons 03-01-06 07:24 PM

I put 1000 miles on my 12A Street Port Brand New Enging from Mazdatrx before I put it on the dyno....

My Mechanic told me that between 500 to 1000 miles would be okay. I preferred to wait until 1k....

Works like a champ....

64mgb 03-01-06 08:41 PM

Here's how I'm doing mine after many suggestions from this forum. First 1000 miles, keep it under 3000 rpm, and no boost. Next 200 miles, keep it under 4000 rpm, and no boost. Next 200 miles, keep it under 5000 rpm, and no boost. Then, let 'er rip!

I have about 1270 miles on it right now, so I'm getting close to being able to get on it a little bit. I've had it up to 5 k a few times...sounds great!

Are you a PIG fan by any chance? haha

MattG 03-01-06 09:51 PM

What you mean?

aarons 03-01-06 09:56 PM

oink oink

Naegleria_Fowleri 03-01-06 10:13 PM

Pig, the band. Young, dumb, full of cum is a line of lyrics off of his newest cd.

MattG 03-01-06 10:19 PM

i just D/L'd some songs by PIG, nothing I heard sounded that good, maybe it was just the songs, I listened to 'Angel'

But I never heard it in any songs, It is a saying my dad always said to me when I would say stuff about girls at school and stuff

Naegleria_Fowleri 03-01-06 10:22 PM

I'm not a fan of Pig's new stuff, I'm much more of a fan of the early nineties stuff. I used to be a really hardcore industrial buff, but it seems that recently its all Pig, Skinny Puppy, and Ministry for the industrial category.

As far as the break in process, I say drive it for 1,000 miles without getting onto it and you're good to go.

Hey, if you don't mind, how much did you pay for your motor, and who built it?

Also, JoseReyes, how much did your 12A street port put down?
