bouncing speedo
Hey,
When I am driving often my speedo starts bouncing up and down by about 10 kph, while I am keeping a constant speed. Does anyone know a fix for this? |
Start carrying a spare ignitor and a 90 degree allen head to replace the trailing ignitor when it goes....you'll feel a loss of power and the tach will go completely dead when the ignitor finally dies...

Mine started doing that as well so I just replaced it. |

Mine is just about dead, it works when it wants to.
It's just the cable. Try some graphite, it may help.
check to make sure the cable is pluged into the tranny good.... it might be loose...
That's what I am thinking, but it is raining here and I don't wanna get under the car right now.
Make sure the cable doesn't have any sharp angles to negotiate too. Could be binding on a tight curve to the speedo.
Is there a problem spot you have in mind?
The cable is a piece-o-cake to pull out at the transmission, it's the other end that's kind of tricky.

I have learned many cuss words when watching people work on in-dash things.
If you get lucky you can disconnect it from the tranny and pull just the inside out and replace it. Maybe it didnt break yet or it is broke close to the tranny.
I have the same problem -it's the cable coming loose out of the back of the guage. You *can* reach up there and tighten it up but it takes some doing and knowledge of what the thing looks like.

I will take a look at the tranny side first, then venture into the dashboard if that doesn't solve the problem.

so...what's it look like?
I have no radio, just a space for it, and a bunch of cut wires. So, I pulled out the loose wires to see how many there are, etc. In doing so, I managed to mess up my clock. Now it's dim unless the headlights are on, and always resets to 1 o'clock when the car is turned off. Today I noticed my speedometer doing exactly this- it's bouncing, fluctuating as it rises and falls. I was afraid something mechanically might be going bad. Being that the tach already doesn't work, it's not helping that my speedometer might stop too. EDIT: Oh crap sorry. But my car IS doing this...not like it's a new problem I'm sure (: |
don't worry, just follow traffic in front of you, and if there is none, go slow and wait till you get passed :) heheh
please man when i had my Honda, the speedo didn't work for the first year I owned it lol. Just drive with traffic. the slower traffic that is, just to be safe.

I live in Florida too. Unlike most of the residents, I have somewhere to be, and I know when my blinker is left on in the left lane.
