Looks like tender blue to me but the VIN tag should have the color code on it.

Ken B 10-31-18 12:00 PM

thank TG we are looking to change so can't check the VIN for the color we like this blue just trying to determine which blue it is.

KansasCityREPU 10-31-18 03:41 PM

Keep in mind that tender blue looks lighter than this photo because of the lighting. The only blue available in 1984/1985 was tender blue.

Ken B 10-31-18 03:48 PM

Im seeing Tender Blue and Sydney Blue as available on multiple sites for 84 / 84

I could be wrong but I thought the US only offered V3.

According to the 1984 brochure (USA), the colors are:
Dover White
Persimmon Red Metallic
Sunrise Red
Sunbeam Silver Metallic
Toronado Silver (Charcoal) Metallic
Sparkling Black Metallic
Tender Blue Metallic
Havana Brown Metallic
Light Beige

j9fd3s 10-31-18 05:21 PM

the specific car is tender blue V3, it was on some for sale site, and i ran the vin

also DP is not an Rx7 color, probably for a truck/626

KansasCityREPU 10-31-18 05:23 PM

As a side note, I like DP better than V3.

Maxwedge 10-31-18 08:05 PM

Oh so tender.

Ken B 10-31-18 10:14 PM

thanks for the replies gang - much appreciated - now Im wondering what Sydney Blue looks like!

My bet is that its a aussie color just based on the name :)

my paint guy is ordering samples for me and he said the Sydney Blue isn't a metallic but the Tender Blue is - found that odd for an RX7 paint NOT to be metallic - I'm thinking you guys are right and this is Tender Blue above.

Color is not in the vin. Its on one of the tags either under the hood or the driver door frame.

Ken B 11-01-18 11:33 AM

ok thanks for trying TG its long distance was hoping its NOT Tender Blue (too light) - we are paying 4K for paint and are trying to make it right

I remember seeing an '85 rx7 for sale and it was Ocean Blue, so maybe there were more than 2 blues in the later years?

ray green 11-02-18 04:29 PM

That looks like Democrat blue to me.

Check out this thread: Tender vs. Ocean

Ken B~
That paint sampler that you posted in Post #5, in my opinion, does not accurately represent Tender Blue (V3).

that one does not come up, it happens occasionally if the car has been off the road for a long time.

Tender Blue was the only blue available in 84, however in 85 Ocean Blue, color code L6 was added as a one year only color. Its the color of my 85 GS.

immediately searched stardust blue. and check the video:

hey guys just wanted to update since you all been a big help. Had my guy spray the Tender Blue as a sample - it IS NOT the color pictured above - it's the more metallic grey the RX7 came in. We have decided to go with a (non Mazda) Subaru metallic color. It is similar to the very light green some RX7s were done in (lower image) but with a bit more darker punch and a beautiful metallic to it.
